As the end of the year approaches it is a good time to write a collective thank you to those who have pitched in to make this year's events happen. I have to start first with our board for the year, Dave Huetten, Teri Comerford, Peggy Laurel, Lori Hazleton, and Verl Smith. They put in a lot of time behind the scenes to make things run smoothly. And the rest of the thank yous, in no particular order… Steve Schwartz and Carl Miller for spray painting the score keeping balls. Thanks to Mike and Tracy Galongo for their help with the men's and mixed doubles tournaments. Thanks to Bill Hendra for his help with the women's tournament and for his great cooking all year. Thanks to Bob and Michele Walter for spearheading our USTA teams and to Michele for her work on behalf of the tennis club during Charity Week. Thanks to Bob Shibata for bringing along a fresh supply of well coached players. If something didn't happen this year that you would have like to have seen or participated in, there is always room for more volunteers. Our fourth quarter meeting and holiday party is coming up on Dec. 14. Note that this is a Sunday. There will be a short business meeting with proposed bylaw changes and election of officers. Then it will be on to dining and dancing. Dining will be catered with prime rib or vegetarian lasagna. The cost is $20 pp and because we need to give the caterer an advance order, we are asking that you pay in advance. Look for sign up sheets and order/payment cards in the South Clubhouse. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Joey Mercado and her assortment or friends and music. We might even break into some karaoke or duets. If you cannot attend the dinner, you are still welcome to attend for the business meeting. That will start at 5 pm. The annual women's doubles tournament in October saw Sally Jo Schwartz and Cathy Leogrande emerge as the victors. They defeated Peggy Huetten and Debbie Pritchett in the finals. Carol Ellis and Claudia Martin took home the consolation honors. 38 | sun lakes lIfestyles | deCeMBeR 2014 | health & spoRts CluBs Tennis Good exercise! A fun activity! Great people!
