CoMMunIty news | sun lakes lIfestyles | deCeMBeR 2014 | 3 By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Happy Holidays to everyone. What a wonderful time of year, and what better place to spend it than right here in Sun Lakes. It seems there is something going on all the time that is full of the holiday spirit and gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. It starts with the Christmas Tree Lighting event (I hear Santa may show up) on Dec. 1 at 5 pm, and culminates with the fantastic New Year's Eve party on the Dec. 31. One of the things you will not want to miss the Holiday Concert put on by our 120+ member Chorale. It is always spectacular. This year it will be on Dec. 5, 6 and 7, and promises to be wonderfully full of Christmas and Hanukkah songs. Of course all of the District parties are entertaining and full of the holiday spirit. What a great time to get together in celebration of the season with your neighbors and old friends. Every time I look in on one of these parties I am reminded of the meaning of the season and how great it is to live in Sun Lakes. On Dec. 11 the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon will be hosted by PCM. This is their way of saying thank you for the hard work and time given to the community by the over 100 volunteers with which our community is blessed. A personal favorite of ours is borrowing the neighbor's golf carts and taking our whole family around the community to look at the beautiful seasonal displays that many people put up. The grandkids really get a kick out of it, and we end the evening with hot chocolate and cookies. The season also has a sinister side to it. That is an increase in crime. It is typical to see an increase in burglaries, purse snatching, car break-ins, and such. Please be vigilant and sensitive to your surroundings and the people who are close to you. As they say, "An ounce of prevention…" Finally, the holidays also mark the end of another year. The Board would like to thank the staff for their service and loyalty to Sun Lakes. They are truly part of our family. We are fortunate to have an excellent staff, led by some terrific department heads. At the head of our great staff are the administrative leaders that are second to none. Charlye Sessner has proven to be everything we hoped she would be when promoted to Assistant General Manager. The return of Tami Morgan was the final piece to the puzzle in providing us with the best staff of any community of our type. Of course the glue to the whole thing is our General Manager, Jeremy Wilson. His knowledge, energizer bunny work ethic, and spectacular attitude are what make the whole thing work and extremely effective in keeping Sun Lakes on track and safe. Have a great holiday. Be safe. Most importantly, take a little time out of your shopping and partying to think about what the season is all about. Certainly there are many beliefs and reasons for celebration at this time of year. Christmas means one thing to many, Hanukkah is special to our Jewish friends, and Kwanzaa brings a different meaning to others. Whatever your belief take that minute to think about what it all means to you and remember the true meaning of the season. I'll see you in 2015.
