District 22 Holiday Party for All Jingle, sparkle, and celebrate with us on Thurs., Dec. 17 at 5 pm. Dinner and dance in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Listen and dance to the music of Bad Influence and enjoy fun, fellowship, and prizes. All are welcome! Cost is $27 pp. RSVP by Dec. 10 to Sara at 769-7491. This month is the greatest time of the year. From Thanksgiving through the first of the year, it is a time to be with relatives and friends. Don't look at the holidays from a negative point of view. Accept the festivities and the celebrations as a time to enjoy yourself and have fun with others. Be a kid again! Remember how we looked forward to Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and the New Year? Are you afraid to show a little excitement during the coming events? Even though you don't show it, don't lose your enthusiasm for the coming days. On Monday December 1st the Sun Lakes Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will take place. Each district draws by lottery the position of their district Christmas tree. The Lighting ceremony begins at 5:00 pm followed by drinks, snacks and entertainment in the Ballroom. It is a spectacular evening enjoyed by hundreds of Sun Lakers thinking about the coming holiday season. There really should be thousands attending the event, if more residents would take the time to attend. In the following weeks various districts will have parties for their residents. Due to poor showings in the past, a number of districts are joining together to have a decent attendance. There are lunches, brunches and dinner dances throughout the following weeks until New Years day. Talk to your neighbors and friends, get a group together and attend some of the events. Besides the district parties, the Recreation Department has scheduled a number of parties for all residents to attend. This is the time of the year to help someone in need. One of obligations the District Assembly has accepted is to supply Christmas gifts to a needy family. Each district selects a family or two who live in the Pass Area. The form we receive will be a "wish list" filled out by the children and the parents. The district will collect money from its residents and then go shopping for the gifts requested. Most of the time, the needy families ask for clothes and needed household items. The children and parents are very thankful for the generosity of Sun Lakers. We usually have more than enough funds to satisfy the families' requests. Wouldn't it be wonderful if sometime in the middle of January the thought of what happened during the holidays flashed through your mind. Then a smile appears thinking about the parties you attended, the fun you experienced, but the smile widens when you realized the happiness you brought to a bunch of needy kids and their mom and dad. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, a safe and prosperous New Year! As of this writing the signs of fall are somewhat apparent. With temperatures in the high 80s in November, our golfers are enjoying it. Somewhere in the few weeks we will get cold and winter will finally arrive. As you know, we will be having very cold mornings with frost. Please check the website for daily conditions. Meanwhile please be careful to keep off of the turf during the cold mornings to avoid frost damage. In late October the main course started working on the drainage system within our bunkers. New drains and sand will be installed on all of the greenside bunkers. The renovation will run into February. Please observe course signage and newly protected areas during the process. For a period of time the bunker sand will be soft till the new sand settles in and gets firm. This is part of the process and playability will improve over time. Keep in mind "fried lies" will happen. One very important suggestion I have for the members regarding the improved bunkers: when entering the bunker, enter on the lowest point. We will be placing the bunker rakes on the best side of the bunker to go in at. PLEASE, do not step or walk down the steep faces of the bunkers. This causes extensive subgrade damage and additional maintenance to repair. Please repair you ball marks and fill your divots for the good of your course. I wish you all a very save and wonderful holiday. ~ Mark Burchfield, Golf Course Superintendent Golf Course Update
