40 | sun lakes lIfestyles | deCeMBeR 2014 | fRIends we wIll MIss JoAnn "Dee" Andrews passed away on October 2, 2014. Dee was born December 31, 1942 in Bell, California. She was raised in Monterey Park, CA and attended Romona Convent Catholic School in Alhambra. She married her soul mate, Robert "Andy" Andrews in 1965 and relocated to Covina where they resided for 35 years, devoted to raising their two daughters Jodi and Wendy. Dee ran a successful daycare for 30 years. Dee and Andy loved outdoor activities, sports and spending time with family and friends. Dee and Andy moved to Sun Lakes in 2003 which they called their "paradise." Dee and Andy became very active in the community and made many new friends and enjoy various social activities. She is survived by her daughters Jodi (Jeff ) Sprosty and Wendy (Anthony) Mendoza, grandchildren Trevor and Ryan Sprosty and Justin and Kiana Mendoza; cousins Joey Eidem and Tommy Bertone. Dee will be missed by all her neighbors, family and friends. R. Patrick Backer 1926-2014. Photography has been a life-long interest to Pat, and he received recognition for his work in juried photography competitions, and his work is included in numerous private collections. He was a member of the Redlands Camera Club, the Photography Group in Sun Lakes and the Art League. Pat enjoyed playing golf with his wife Mary on the Executive Course. Pat was retired from the Southern California Edison Company. Pat was in the U.S. Army and will be interred at the National Veteran's Cemetery in Riverside. Pat leaves his wife Mary, two daughters, two sons, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He will be missed and will live in our hearts forever. Bonnie Jeanne Hatch Hier 1932 - 2014. Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Bonnie Hier, 82, passed away October 9, 2014, in Banning, California, with her family by her side. She was born June 18, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ivan Vance and Dora Isabelle Jones Hatch. She graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. Bonnie married her childhood sweetheart, William (Bill) Kenneth Hier in Bountiful, Utah on May 4, 1950. Bonnie loved her family and friends, playing cards, golfing and bowling. She is survived by her children, Shellie Hier, Kenny Hier and Becky (Jeff ) Davis; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sister Louise Atkinson, West Jordan, UT; brother Dan Hatch, Hurricane, UT; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill of 64 years, daughter Bonnie, son Chuck, her parents, sister Georgia, and brother Steven. Bonnie will be laid to rest next to her husband at National Cemetery in Riverside, CA in a private ceremony at a later date. Anne Liebers was born on October 17, 1925, in New York City. She and her husband, Larry, moved to Sun Lakes in 1990. After an eight year battle with vascular dementia she passed away on September 20, 2014. Although she and her husband were unable to have children of their own, she had so much love to share they adopted three children, Michelle, Steven, and Nancy during their marriage. Anne was survived by ten grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and as a result of her youngest daughter succumbing to a pulmonary embolism at 35, she is survived by daughter Michelle, and son Steven. She loved everybody, and everybody loved her. Elizabeth A. (Betty) Sandahl was born on July 21, 1929 in Goodland Kansas and moved to San Bernardino in 1941. Elizabeth passed away on June 18, 2014. Elizabeth and Harold married on November 27, 1948, and celebrated 66 years of marriage. She was survived by her husband Harold, who passed away four months later. She is also survived by her sons Steven and Brian, and her sister Nancy Johnson. She worked for the San Bernardino City Unified School District and retired as an administrative assistant in 1992 after 22 years of service. They moved to Sun Lakes in 1990. In San Bernardino she was very active in Junior University and Shipmates through the First Congregational Church. In Sun Lakes, she enjoyed the Women's Golf Club, the RV Club, and playing bridge. Harold E. (Harry) Sandahl was born on August 8, 1926 in San Bernardino, CA. Harold passed away on October 5, 2014 in Ontario, CA, preceded in death by Elizabeth (Betty) Sandahl, loving wife of 66 years. They are survived by two sons, Brian and Steven. Harold served in the Navy during World War II. He retired as manager of Bank of America, Sterling/Highland branch in 1984 after 36 years of service. He then worked for six years for First American Title. In 1990, Harry and Betty retired to Sun Lakes. In San Bernardino, Harry was active in the Navy League, Fire Commissioner for the city 1979-1985, Junior University and Shipmates through the First Congregational Church. In Sun Lakes, he enjoyed the Men's Golf Club and RV Club. Friends we will miss We want to remember your loved ones in the "Friends We Will Miss" section, above, but we need your help.
