soCIal Clubs & gRoups | sun lakes lIfestyles | JanuaRy 2015 |23 Happy new year to all our Sun Lakes neighbors. Get well wishes go out to our leader Shirley Almeida who had hip surgery in December. We hope you will be back with us soon. You are such an important part of our team. Our next meeting and caregivers support group will be Thurs., Jan. 15 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. I want to remind you that these meetings are so very important if you are living with someone having memory loss. They are not only educational for you the caregiver, but are also a support group for you. Our guest speaker will be Eaindra Tint. She is a pharmacist with Walgreens. Her topic will be How to dispose of old medications. If you have old medications and aren't sure what they are for, or they are just old, bring them to the meeting and Eaindra will give you the proper advice on what to do with them. Our caregivers support group begins immediately after Eaindra. Diane Stone and Larry Liebers lead this group. Take advantage of this group and all it offers. Don't forget about our Arts and Crafts Room group. This group is to help you the caregiver. Just drop your loved one off at the Arts and Crafts Room on your way to the meeting. Our loving volunteers play games, take walks, and do whatever to make them happy while you are attending the meeting. This month Susan Brown entertains. Shelly Braatz leads those who wish to participate in light Tai Chi. Shelly has recently joined our volunteer group as a regular. We are so happy to have her. If you would like to learn more about memory loss and Alzheimer's and Dementia, we have reading material we can share with you. Call Shirley at 845-2008. Here is Sign #6: New problems with words in speaking or writing People with Alzheimer's may have trouble following or joining a conversation. They may stop in the middle of a conversation and have no idea how to continue or they may repeat themselves. They may struggle with vocabulary, have problems finding the right word, or call things by the wrong name (e.g., calling a watch a hand clock). What's a typical age-related change? Sometimes having trouble finding the right word. We meet January through October, typically on the second Wednesday of the month, 11 am - 12:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room. There are discussions on the latest findings and research, medications, nutrition, exercise, and coping skills brought to us by various speakers.
