SOCIAL CLUBS & GROUPS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2015 |23 Happy Valentine's Day! Let's take time this month to appreciate our loved ones and show them we care. Our next meeting and caregivers support group will be Thurs., Feb. 19 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. These meetings are not only educational for you the caregiver but are also a support group for you. Our guest speaker this month is Darlene Merkler from the Riverside County Office on Aging. Her topic is Taking Care of the Caregiver. Taking care of one's self sometimes gets put on the back burner when caring for someone else. Don't miss this powerful guest speaker. Our caregivers' support group begins immediately after Darlene Merkler's talk. Diane Stone and Larry Liebers lead this group. They have both lived with a spouse having Alzheimer's, so their knowledge is more than what the books can tell you. They have lived it. Take advantage of all that our group has to offer. Don't forget about our Arts and Craft Room group. This group (for the patient) is designed to help you, the caregiver. Just drop your loved one off at the Arts and Craft Room on your way to the meeting. Our loving volunteers play games, take walks and do whatever, to make them happy while you are attending the meeting. Shelly Braatz leads those who wish to participate in light Tai Chi. This month O.T. (a disc jockey) will entertain them. We always have fun. If you would like to learn more about memory loss and Alzheimer's and Dementia, we have reading material we loan you. Call Shirley 845-2008. We also have a monthly calendar with support group information for the Pass area. We are here to help you. Don't do it alone. Memory Care Group (Formerly Alzheimer's & Dementia Helpers) To help identify problems early, the Alzheimer's Association has created a list of 10 warning signs for Alzheimer's and other dementias. Here is Sign #7: Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps. A person with Alzheimer's disease may put things in unusual places. They may lose things and be unable to go back over their steps to find them again. Sometimes, they may accuse others of stealing. This may occur more frequently over time. What's a typical age-related change? Misplacing things form time to time and retracing steps to find them. We meet January through October, typically on the second Wednesday of the month, 11 am - 12:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room. There are discussions on the latest findings and research, medications, nutrition, exercise, and coping skills brought to us by various speakers. Come to our group to learn and share your experience with others. Info., Gerri Piechowski, 769-2305. Parkinson's Support
