FROM THE PRO SHOP | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2015 | 13 COMING SOON! SUN LAKES "PASS PUTTERS" This is a new group open to any Sun Lakes homeowner who wants to improve their putting and meet other residents. Pass Putters will be a group that gets together once a month and putts on the Main Clubhouse putting greens. You will keep score, and play individually or as a team based on monthly events. Dates and times will be determined (Tuesday or Friday at 2 pm). There is a minimal fee for an apron to hold your ball, pencil, and scorecard and a "pass putter" Sun Lakes shirt. If you are interested, please stop by the golf shop and fill out a quick interest form. We also need volunteers to help set up the course, assist with results, form teams, and coordinate the group. Should you have interest please come in and see a golf shop representative or Al Vallecorsa, Director of Golf, PGA from 8 am to 5 pm. We look forward to seeing you and hope you can join in on the fun. PUTTING DEMO DAY Wed., March 25, 11 am to 2 pm at the Championship Putting Green • Special One Day Pricing… Come try our great inventory of putters in stock! Hello Sun Lakers, Winter has brought some much needed rain and moderate temperatures. The coldest days were at the end of December yielding temperatures in the middle 20s causing some frost damage to some plants. Cold weather can be unpredictable in our community because of air movement and overhanging tree limbs. Frost will settle in on turf at about 38-40 degrees. Because plants are mostly water, the cells are thin which makes turf prone to frost at higher temperatures above freezing. Consequently, if your plants are under a cover (patio or eves) they most likely won't suffer from frost. If you have been on the main course in the past two months, you may have noticed the bunker drainage and sand replacement project being done. We're making a few subtle changes to improve aesthetics and playability but primarily improved drainage and high quality sand will be the biggest improvement to the bunker system. For me, winter is my least favorite time of the year for the golf course. It gets cold, plant growth slows down, and the wigeons and coots are here. Unfortunately they won't migrate out till late April. Until then we have to deal with the mess and destruction they leave behind. Hurry up April. See you out on the course.
