SOCIAL CLUBS & GROUPS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2015 | 19 If you have ever wandered in New York's Time Square, imagining that vanished Broadway of lovable gangsters, wisecracking dolls and neon-splashed dawns, then you surely loved the production of "Guys and Dolls & More" that roared into Sun Lakes last month. The Mystery Theater hit the jackpot with this brilliant production, delivering musical theater's triple threat: fantastic vocals, believable performances, and the spectacular choreography of Susan Fitzpatrick. Directed by Michael Owen with his exacting eye for detail, and brilliantly paced by musical director Lou Evans, embracing all the beauty of Loesser's music without losing any of the fun of the story. In Act I, we were captivated by the performances of The Hot Chicks & Studs, Satin Dolls, Rinkles and Rhinestones, The Notables, Audacity, and Step in Time. Act II regaled us with whimsical enactments by Gaylord Spence as Sky Masterson, Lou Evans as Sister Sarah Brown, D. Williams as Nathan Detroit, Pat Naylor as Miss Adelaide, Frank Gilleece as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Ralph Yates as Benny South Street, Mark Saber as Rusty Charlie and Bill Shova as Harry the Horse. Performances also included the Guys & Dolls ensemble. We hope you enjoyed the show and would like to extend our thanks to the Sun Lakes residents for their continued support of the Mystery Theater productions. Mystery Theater & More We celebrated the 10th Anniversary Violin/Piano Concert with the international performers from Japan with great success in February. These concerts bring world class classical music to Sun Lakes, and the change to an evening venue at the ballroom of the Main Clubhouse brought a formality worthy of the spectacular talents of the performers. By incorporating the meet and greet reception with the musical performance and including all ticket buyers it made for a wonderfully cohesive evening of enjoyment for all. In the spring, we will present another Reader's Theatre. It will be in the South Clubhouse with complimentary wine and cheese for one performance on March 29 at 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. The offering will be the Lux Radio Theatre drama, "Notorious," which starred Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant. It will star nine men and two women and as usual the auditions were open to any Sun Lakes resident with an interest in performing. Prices for the Reader's Theatre are $8. Pat Naylor will be the director and Ken Brown is handling the sound and special effects. Reservations can be made by phone with Harriet Briant at 769-0383. The choice for the spring play has been moved to October and remains "The Odd Couple" (female version). Open auditions will be held in June for the six women and two men required for the cast. Any resident with a yen for acting is welcome to audition. Neil Simon has outdone his comedy genius with this version of his award winning play. Michael Owen is the director and brings his multifaceted talents to the presentation of this play. Mark your calendars now for the last weekend in October so you won't miss it.
