27 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | April 2015 | From The President – Gerry Edmonds: During the past few years volunteers from the golf club have worked with the golf course to undertake some needed course maintenance. The work entails filling fairway and tee box divots with a sand and seed mixture provided by the golf course and fixing pitch marks on the greens. This spring, the club will once again seek volunteers to donate a couple of hours doing this maintenance. More importantly, I would like to urge all golfers to help with this maintenance during each round you play. Gary Sopata compiled the following list of five common sense suggestions for golf course maintenance etiquette. Please take a few minutes to read through these suggestions. • In the Fairway: All of your divots should be repaired by placing sand mix in the divot or replacing the grass. Repair others near your location if you have time. • On the Tee: Repair your divots and pick up your tee – even if it is broken. Replace sand in the divots on par 3 holes. • On the Green: Ball marks on the green should be repaired. Repair your mark and any others close to your mark. Carefully place (not drop) the flagstick on the fringe when putting. You can also repair golf shoe damage or hole damage after you finish the hole. The head of a club should not be used to remove the ball from the hole. Carefully replace the flag with no damage to rim of the hole. • In the Bunkers: Always leave and enter the bunkers (with rake in hand) from the low side. Rake and smooth the sand to leave a fresh surface for other players — like you would like to see it. Replace the sand rake alongside the bunker, not in it. • In the Golf Cart: whenever possible utilize the 90-degree rule to reach your ball. This helps maintain fairways. Park the carts on the path on tee boxes and green side locations. Your goal is to leave little trace your golf cart was on the course. Much of what happens on the golf course with maintenance is out of our control. However, if we each do our part, the course will be better off for it. Let's all try to work these suggestions into our golf routines.
