Tennis Friends IN TENNIS, RULES IS RULES Recently Chuck was asked about certain rules. So here are his answers. USTA Comment 18.3: When does a foot fault occur? A player commits a foot fault if after the player's feet are at rest but before the player strikes the ball, either foot touches: • the court, including the baseline; • any part of the imaginary extension of the center mark (Del Potro); or beyond the imaginary extension of the outside of the singles sideline in singles or the doubles sideline in doubles. Likewise: Comment 18.2 • Serves that look like the running volleyball serve violate the rule. • Serves in which the server runs or walks from a point well behind the baseline to the baseline are also illegal, as are serves in which the server walks or runs along the baseline before choosing a spot from which to deliver the serve. (Does anyone do this?) Often, in casual games people let it go if no advantages are gained. However, that indulgence may not be doing the server a favor. So, what is your favorite rule? Should we illustrate it? Or, if you have any other questions you can ask Chuck Sims or you can just drop in to any of our events or check with Tracy Trousset or Trish Egan. Please look us up in the resident directory for times and events. Furthermore, several of our members are familiar with tennis around the Southern California area. Above: Bill Spreen, Jerry Jaeran, "Larry" John Tarabochia, Earle Irvine, Mason Arnold and Hiro Oshita. Below: Earle Irvine and John Tarabochia, who play together at least twice a week, have never lost a match when they are paired up. They have been undefeated for two years! 909-910-6074 Simply the best overhead storage system available! Garage Storage + Plus To find out how we can help you unclutter your garage Call Now!
