SOCIAL CLUBS & GROUPS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2015 |23
Happy Easter to all our Sun Lakes neighbors who celebrate this
holiday. Beside the religious part of Easter, my grandkids have let me
know they are not too old for the traditional Easter Egg Hunt. So if you
see a few plastic eggs somewhere on my corner after Easter, you'll know
they missed some.
Our next meeting and caregivers support group will be Thurs.,
April 16, at 10 am. Please note, until further notice, we will meet in the
Main Clubhouse Ballroom (lobby side). Our guest speaker will be Kay
Perryman. Kay has a degree in Gerontology and masters from Boston
University. Her topic will be New Research in Alzheimers.
Our Arts and Craft group (Patient Group) will meet on the Veranda
this month only. After a little fresh air, we will proceed to the bus
room. Our entertainment has not been confirmed yet, but we are
hoping for something special. We always have fun with Shelly Braatz as
she leads us in light Tai Chi.
If you would like to learn more about memory loss and Alzheimer's
and Dementia, we have reading materials we can loan you. Call Shirley
at 845-2008.
Don't forget the Caregivers Support Group begins immediately after
our guest speaker. This group is lead by Diane Stone and Larry Liebers.
They are a great team that you can benefit from.
Memory Care Group
To help identify problems early, the Alzheimer's Association has
created a list of 10 warning signs for Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Here is Sign #9: Withdrawl from work or social activities. A person
with Alzheimer's may start to remove themselves from hobbies, social
activities, work projects or sports. They may have trouble keeping up
with a favorite sports team or remembering how to complete a favorite
hobby. They may also avoid being social because of the changes they
have experienced. What are typical age-related changes? Sometimes
feeling weary of work, family and social obligations.
We meet January through October, typically on the second Wednesday
of the month, 11 am - 12:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room.
There are discussions on the latest findings and research, medications,
nutrition, exercise, and coping skills brought to us by various speakers.
Come to our group to learn and share your experience with others. Info.,
