Told through the eyes of holocaust survivor Sigmund Rolat who is responsible for the film, the movie reveals his relationship to famed Polish violinist Bronislaw Huberman, a legendary humanitarian who saved Europe's premiere Jewish musicians by getting them visas to Palestine and forming the Palestine Orchestra which later became the Israel Philharmonic. The story of a violin stolen from a native of a Polish city after the rise of Hitler may not seem to deserve mentioning when the city from which it was stolen, Czestowchowa, known for its statue of the Black Madonna, was the scene of one of the worst cases of genocide of World War II. But that priceless Stradivarius violin was owned by Huberman, the town's most famous resident, who, in 1882 was praised by Johannes Brahms for his playing. The film also tells the remarkable tale of Mr. Bell's finding the violin and being invited to perform with the Czestowchowa Orchestra in conjunction with efforts to open the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw in 2009. We hope all our friends will share this event which is being held in honor of Yom HaShoah, the time of remembering all those who perished or were victims of the Holocaust. Everyone is welcome to join us for this one time showing. Refreshments will be served. Charge for guests is $4 pp and charge for members is $2 pp. Info., Diane, 769-0130. Our feature show for Sun., May 17 will be Best Torch Singer, Kristen Hertzenberg. Notice that this show will be the third Sun., May 17 due to the fact that our regular second Sunday falls on Mother's Day. Kristen Hertzenberg, Texas born, is a classically trained opera singer with a master's degree in Opera Performance from Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts who toured Europe before she dazzled thousands as Christine in Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular. Kristen decided to stay in Vegas and start a band that's already headlined Cabaret Jazz at the Smith Center. Onstage, her voice is the centerpiece, a versatile and dynamic instrument that goes from gritty blues to an angelic peal at the drop of a Julie London record sleeve. She can currently be seen as "Dyanne" in the Las Vegas production of the hit Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet. Doors open at 6 pm, show at 7 pm. Tickets for members at $20 and $25 for non-resident guests. Friendly reminder that members are to be residents of Sun Lakes. Checks only (no cash) can be mailed or dropped off at 5168 Rio Bravo.
