Our members drive all kinds — old ones as well as new ones. We've noticed a lot of "new" classic cars in our community. The aim of Cruizin' Cronies is to encourage new (and not-so-new) Sun Lakes residents to join us for a monthly Saturday morning meeting, featuring a mini car show, car talk, presentations, fellowship, and breakfast in a local area restaurant. We'd love to see, and hear you brag about, your engines, paint jobs, hemis, side mounts, turbos, restorations, etc. We'll even feature your car in our monthly article in Lifestyles! Join us at 8 am, Sat., May 2, with our display of classic cars in the Main Clubhouse parking lot. Breakfast follows at a to-be-announced restaurant. Info., Sandra Glickman, 692-6991. Bible Study Our Bible study group is non-denominational. All are welcome. We meet together every week for fellowship and study. On the first Wednesday of each month we meet for dinner before our regular meeting. Reservations for dinner are taken in the meeting the last Wednesday of each month. Bring your Bible, any version, and listen to or participate in our discussion of the evening topic. We're all learning together. We'd be delighted if you'd join us. We meet every Wednesday at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Neil Torrence went with his family to the 1939 World's Fair in San Francisco in a 1938 Packard. Neil didn't have a driver's license, but he had already learned to drive a stick shift backwards. "I'd back the car in and out of our garage for my parents." While attending South Pasadena High School in the 40s, Neil bought his first car — a 1936, 4-door Ford. "All it needed was a new engine!" He learned a lot from his dad, who was a "car guy", and from his high school friends, who were building street rods in 1948. After earning degrees from Stanford, Neil spent 2 years in France in the service. He brought home a 1956 Austin Healey, and began his career in finance. He and his wife, Joan, honeymooned to Death Valley in a 1953 Cadillac convertible. In 1983, Neil bought a 1947 Packard limousine, and got hooked on Packards, because "they're reliable, very well-built, and had advanced features early on." He joined the Packard International Motor Car Club, judging cars and running caravans and other events. Pictured are the Torrences and their 1954 Packard convertible.
