Dorothy Coy went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ earlier this year. She was born January 17, 1922. Dorothy's passion for music was ignited at the age of three, when she began piano lessons; her mother coached and guided her in daily practice. To encourage her, her father bought her a Steinway baby grand piano. Gifted with perfect pitch, she was a soloist at school recitals. Dorothy attended UW where she joined the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and music honoraries Delta Pi and Mu Pi Epsilon. Dorothy graduated with a double major in vocal and piano music. Dorothy served as the soprano soloist on the weekly radio broadcasts for the 1st Presbyterian Church of Seattle. Her beautiful singing voice caught the attention of John Coy, a talented baritone who participated in numerous musicals while attending Stanford University. They married in November of 1945 and this would have been their 70th wedding anniversary this year. A job promotion prompted John to move the family to Los Angeles in 1953. Dorothy instilled a love of music and performing in her three children, Carolyn, Craig, and Cameron, from an early age. In fact, she performed in local community theatre productions with Carolyn and Craig. She and Jack always attended numerous performances (no matter the distance), of her children, and grandchildren as well. She participated in Sun Lakes Chorale for many years and joined their bridge club as this was her favorite card game. She was a superlative baker and made delectable pecan pies, shortbread, butter ball, and cheese cake, etc. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed be all.
