27 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | June 2015 | From The President – Gerry Edmonds: For new residents of Four Seasons and others not familiar with our golf club, I thought I would provide an overview of our activities. Quoting from the Club's by-laws, "The purpose of this club shall be to provide an opportunity for Hemet Four Seasons residents to gather and compete in golf tournaments and participate in associated social activities at the community level; and to encourage exercise for better health through a recreational sport and for relaxation and enjoyment for all." Tuesday mornings throughout the year, members of the club "take over" the Hemet Golf Course to engage in some friendly competition. Four major tournaments are conducted during the year and a variety of games, including scrambles, other team formats, and individual play are conducted on these days. In addition, members of the club, most notably Ron Leatherman, John Bates, and Dale Jones, organize outings at other times. Our scheduled social events for the year include three banquets and two barbeques. These events are open to all members, their spouses and guests. However, there is a great deal of socializing at the golf course clubhouse over lunch and refreshments following our Tuesday outings. If you are golfer and either new to our community or have not participated in the Golf Club outings, I encourage you to do so. Our guest policy provides opportunities for you to participate in many of our outings. Contact one of your neighbors and come join us. Applications for membership may be found at the front desk at the Lodge. I hope to see you on Tuesdays. From the Tournament Chair – Dave Balser: To play in our Tuesday events, sign up a week in advance at our prior event, or contact Dave Balser via email at dbalsertournamentdirector@gmail.com, or you can call (760) 436-6139. From the Membership Chair – Debbie James: Paperwork for SCGA registration and Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club membership can be obtained at the Lodge. The process is simple and easy. Complete the forms, write the check and give them back to the front desk. From the Rules Chair – Melody Lewis: This is the last of the series of "The 18 most Misunderstood Rules." This month I will address the #16, #17 and #18 most misunderstood rules. These are the rules set in place by the USGA. Please remember that local rules will override the rules mentioned here. The #16 most misunderstood rule is "changing club characteristics." Clubs may not be altered in anyway once play has begun. If a club is altered during the normal course of play, such as bending it after hitting a tree while attempting to hit the ball, the club may be taken to the shop for immediate repair and a replacement may be used until the original is repaired. If a club is modified outside the normal course of play, such as breaking or bending it in a fit of anger, it must be taken out of play for the remainder of the match. Should it be used again the penalty is disqualification, whether match or stroke play. The #17 most misunderstood rule is "repairing the line of your putt." You may repair any ball marks in your line. You may also remove any pebbles or foreign objects in your line provided you do not press anything down. You may do this by using your hand, a club, a towel or even your hat. You may not fix spike marks nor continued on the next page
