If a player touches the inside of a hole they are considered
to have touched their line of putt. An exception would be
damage to the hole that was clearly made by a ball. Damage
to the lip that has been caused by a flag stick due to wind
or a poorly replaced flag stick may not be repaired prior
to you and your competitors finishing the hole. Etiquette
suggests you repair damage to the hole and spike marks
around the hole before leaving the green.
The #18 most misunderstood rule is "hitting the wrong
ball." The penalty for hitting the wrong ball in stroke play
is two strokes and the original ball must be replayed from
its original position. Remember the rules are in place to
protect the interests of every player and to level the playing
field.
