HEALTH & SPORTS CLUBS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2015 | 37 Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes We are now starting our Summer League. This is a short 14 week handicap league. We have many new bowlers this season and let me say welcome to our league. Some call the summer league a good place to practice and get your game fixed for the winter. My opinion is this to join a summer league to see if you like to bowl. If you do, then take some lessons and get better. With practice and lessons you will be at least an average bowler by the end of the first summer league. Many people join a league and bowl without taking any lessons at all. It will be very hard for a new bowler to get any better without professional training. This is a small price to pay to improve you game. Don't waste this opportunity. While bowling in the summer league take a lesson from a pro. We have a Pro shop and a Pro at Canyon Lanes and Lessons are very affordable. The bowler of the month is Rick Shanefelt who started the season off with a 720 series. Great bowling Rick! We will report next month with more scores and stats. (Remember try to keep it out of the gutter!) Home Again Bowling The winter league came to a close with sweepstakes rolled on April 22. We joined the Monday Sun Lakers for our awards luncheon at the South Clubhouse on April 25. Our secretary, Lil McLean, presided over the "Home Again" portion, assisted by her husband, Bob McLean. Prize money was distributed and happily received by our lucky winners. We sang "Happy Trails" to Bridgette and Bob Greb as they are moving to Florida. Our President, Larry Stormes, led the singing and then made his farewell speech, thanking us for the privilege and honor of being our President the past two years. He does not plan on returning in the next season. We wish Larry and Gail well in their next bowling endeavors! We experienced some great high scores this year with George Thiel's 300 game, Bob Greb's 299 game, and Bob McLean and Sandy Hepburn each bowled 279 games with eleven strikes in a row! What great thrills! Even more amazing was George Thiel's 839 scratch series! Our ladies also excelled. Gail Stormes and Bridgette Greb tied with high scratch games of 223. Louise Deal's top scratch series of 605 was outstanding! All in all, it was a really great season! We started the short summer league season on May 6. We also had the election of officers and rule review. We look forward to all of our returnees and hopefully some new faces. Welcome "Home Again!" Info., Lil McLean, 769-2042.
