In May we welcomed John and Sue Guldseth from Guldseth Orchards. Growing up John enjoyed u-pick experience at the cherry orchards in Cherry Valley in the 60s. So inspired, John and his brother Dan bought property and planted cherry trees in 1972. Improving and perfecting the quality of cherries has been the passion at the Guldseth Orchards. They specialize in organic and natural growing to protect the trees and the fruit. The picking season for cherries is primarily in June and July. Their cherries are yummy. July is the time to "Let them eat cake" Everybody loves some kind of cake. Haven't tasted a homemade cake in a while? Join us Fri., July 24 at 11 am in the South Clubhouse. Some of our best bakers will be sharing their family recipes. It is a great way to get ideas for that special occasion to impress your family and friends. Membership info, call Carolyn Wright, 797-3568. Happy Cookers Chorale DON'T FORGET the FREE Patriotic and Gospel Concert sponsored by The Chorale of Sun Lakes and the Sun Lakes Barbershop Chorus on Sun., July 5, at 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse ballroom. Featured in the concert will be members of the Chorale, the Barbershop Chorus, and Bill Kliewer on sax and vocals. Tickets are available (FREE) at the receptionist's desk in the Main Clubhouse. Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year we are sponsoring our Aug. 23 Barbershop Concert. We are all in for a special treat this year as the barbershop chapter and chorus that we have been sponsoring, The New Gang On The Corner chorus from the Riverside Chapter, has merged with a slightly larger chapter to form a dynamo of a chorus with close to 40 men on the risers! The name of this newly merged chapter is the Inland Empire Chapter, and the Inland Sound chorus. This chapter has a rich history with the Barbershop Harmony Society, being awarded their Society charter 61 years ago in 1954! However, the combined energies of the newly merged group of talented singers is positioning the chorus for even more growth as they just earned the highest competitive score of either of the two previously merged choruses in the recent SE/SW Divisional Contest in Santa Monica since 2002! The program that they have constructed for our delight is a musical tapestry of Barbershop Music through each decade of the 20th Century. The guest quartet that they have also lined up, American Pastime, is also the Far Western District Champions from 2014 and are certain to bring the house down with their melodic, intricate blends. For certain, this is a concert you will not want to miss! Tickets will go on sale in the lobby of the Main Clubhouse starting the second Monday in August for a mere $8 pp. Mark this event on your calendar right now for Sun., Aug. 23 at 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. CORRECTION: The Chorale will hold fall sign ups and registration on Mon., Sept. 14, at 8:30 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Rehearsals will begin at 9:30 am later that morning. New members are welcome to attend! soCIal Clubs & groups | sun lakes lIfestyles | July 2015 |15 Honoring All Paths to God Meditation 9:30 am • Sunday Service & Youth Ministry 10 am rev.
