FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2015 15
Tony Lara, Judy Irving, Anita Worthen, and Jim Bushnell at the
June meeting
By Randy Balt
Tony Lara, Director of Operations, Beaumont-Cherry Valley
Water District, our local water retailer, made a presentation
in the Ballroom on June 10 during the Neighborhood Watch
meeting regarding new water restrictions effective July 1.
The State of California has established a state-wide mandate
of 25 percent reduction in water use, with the Beaumont-
Cherry Valley Water District being told to reduce consumption
by 36 percent.
The district's average water usage is 250 gallons per capita
per day. Thirty percent of that is indoor use and 70 percent
outdoor. Outdoor use is the target area for reductions. It is
estimated that half of outdoor water is wasted due to inefficient
operations.
Homeowners should review their current indoor and
outdoor use, looking for areas of water savings, such as
incorporating more water efficient systems, eliminating over-
watering and most importantly, looking for that big culprit of
water waste, leaky pipes and fixtures.
Effective July 1, you can only water lawns on Monday and
Thursday, between the hours of 8 pm and 8 am.
Because the City of Beaumont's waste water treatment plant
is not in operation the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District
has begun preliminary discussions with the Yucaipa Water
District as a source for recycled water.
