34 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2015 It isn't always about discovering your roots. Sometimes it's about making sure your roots are safe and in good shape. Think about it. What would happen if tonight you disappeared forever, quite literally? Tomorrow morning, would your spouse and family find it easy to take care of your affairs? Would your important documents be up-to-date and easy to find? Uncomfortable questions, but being prepared for your departure or incapacitation will greatly decrease the burden suddenly placed on your loved ones. Basically, you should make sure all your legal documents are current, such as your Last Will and Testament, Trust, Health Care Directive (or Medical Directive) and Power of Attorney. In addition, organize and identify your financial accounts, death and health insurance policies, legal and accounting services, investments, business operations, physicians, military benefits, family heirlooms and keepsakes, and all the other things that are important at such a time. And finally, write down what you would like to happen when you disappear! An informal gathering of family and friends with hot dogs and cold drinks? A picnic at a park or a mountain lake? A camp fire circle at the beach? A formal church service or memorial? Music and dancing? Nothing? Remember, you won't be there to let people know what you want. According to the book's description on Amazon, "Lawrence Anthony devoted his life to animal conservation, protecting the world's endangered species. Then he was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand. His common sense told him to refuse, but he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom. The Elephant Whisperer is a heartwarming, exciting, funny, and sometimes sad memoir of Anthony's experiences with these huge yet sympathetic creatures. Set against the background of life on an African game reserve, with unforgettable characters and exotic wildlife, Anthony's unrelenting efforts at animal protection and his remarkable connection with nature will inspire animal lovers and adventurous souls everywhere." Anthony died of a heart attack at the age of 61 in March, 2012. According to reports, after his death, many of the elephants he worked to save came to his family's home and stood vigil, in accordance with the way elephants usually mourn the death of one of their own.
