FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2015 27 An interest group is being formed to provide 24-hour, one- stop transportation to medical facilities for Four Seasons residents who are unable to drive themselves. Brenda and Richard Teeman feel the existing transportation options are inadequate and should be expanded. The dial-a- ride systems are limited to connections to bus routes, their service areas, and schedules. Most require pre-registration, reservations ahead of time and exact change for fares. Taxi cabs and vans services are expensive. A sign-up sheet for those interested in helping is at the Lodge Desk. "We are working for effective, economical, convenient, transportation to our medical facilities," said the Teemans. "We want to increase the independence of our seniors, not cause dependence on others. We do not want to have to use poorly scheduled transportation, make bus transfers, wait outside in the hot sun or rainy weather or pay exorbitant prices for our fare." The current options include Riverside (RTA) Dial a Ride (951) 565-5000 for trips in west Riverside County; Omni Dial a Ride (800) 990-2404, which connects with the RTA at Loma Linda Veterans Hospital for trips in San Bernardino County; Beaumont Dial a Ride (951) 769- 8532, is limited to persons with disabilities for trips in the Banning and Beaumont area. The private car taxi service Lyft is available, usually at a substantial discount from regular cabs, across the Inland Empire. Details are on the website lyft.com. The Teemans would like to see a tax-subsidized service for all seniors in our area. In the meantime, they hope their interest group can alleviate the problem while working toward a subsidized system. ~ Leighton McLaughlin Medical Transportation Assistance Interest Group Lawn Bowling Interest Group Wood Carving Club New Group interest groups and new groups Interested in a Wood Carving Club? It is a very old game that is played in several neighboring communities and the world over. In fact, Lawn Bowls can be traced to the 13th century and is played in over 40 countries today. The object of the game is to get bowls closer to the jack (which is a small white ball) than your opposing team. Your team receives one point for each bowl that is closer. It is a fun game that offers equal opportunity to each player. The bowls are biased so they'll roll in a curve. A typical team is three players. But there can be teams of two to four players. The team includes a lead, a vice skip and a skip. The lead rolls the jack into position and then bowls first. He/ She tries to get his bowls close to the jack. The opposing team lead alternates bowls until they each bowl three times. Others in the team can try to get closer to the jack or put in blockers to obstruct the opposition and protect the lead. Usually the skip is a more experienced player and may roll his bowl to disrupt the group of bowls around the jack or roll to gently push out the shot bowl and leave his nearest the jack. It is an interesting game (how does that bowl know when to curve?) and you are able to develop skills at your own pace. There is a sign up interest sheet at the Lodge. ~ Bev Webster
