How MucH water are you using? Most of us are
under budget when it comes to how much outside water we are
using. Take a look at your water bill. On the bottom left side
there is a Water Budget/Sewer Block Data chart that shows how
much total (inside and outside) water you are using as opposed
to what your water budget is. Note, the chart is calibrated for
a household of three, where as many of us are a two or one
member household; therefore you can adjust the chart for one
third or two thirds less. Then adjust again at 60 percent for
what you use for outside watering.
Sample: I am a two person household. My budget for May
was for about 14 units. If I adjust for one third less this makes
my budget at 9.3, then take away 40 percent for inside use,
makes my outside budget at 5.6 units.
I used a total inside and outside of five units in May;
therefore my outside 60 percent use was three units. I saved
about 66 percent less than my budget. I have more than met the
50 percent cut requested.
Those who want to keep their lawns, can keep them semi-
green by watering between the hours of 9 pm and 4 am for two
minutes on – one hour off – then again for two to three minutes
— for two or three days per week this summer.
