15 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | August 2015 |
September, has been designated "National Preparedness
Month." This has been designated as a time to focus on
personal and community efforts to prepare ourselves for
emergencies and disasters, both large scale and smaller local
events. We know that emergencies can happen unexpectedly,
and the speed and success of recovery from them is directly
related to how well prepared we are.
The EPC (Emergency Preparedness Committee) continues
to prepare Hemet Four Seasons for participation in the "Great
Shakeout" exercise, which takes place this year on Thurs.,
Oct. 15 at 10:15 am. We plan to have several events between
now and then to increase our community awareness and
involvement, and sharpen our skills. As a reminder, we would
like to encourage everyone to visit the website www.shakeout.
org/california/ for details, information, and suggestions on how
you can prepare and participate. Please consider registering to
participate. On a national scale, FEMA sponsors a site at www.
ready.gov/. This site will refer you to many resources related to
disaster awareness and preparations.
Look for "e-blasts" and other communications efforts to
advise you of activities you can either witness or participate
in. Once again, we encourage you to become involved. This
would require only as much, or as little, effort on your part
as you are willing to invest. There are no minimums of time,
experience or training involved. And, recognizing that this is a
senior community there are no real physical requirements —
just a willingness to do what you can do. Bruce Cowie, Sharon
Schneider, and Larry and Sharyn Hawkins continue to provide
training and practical experience exercises to help us all be
better prepared.
