38 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2015 TOPS Amateur Radio Club Congratulations to Fred Weck, KK6HBQ. Fred completed and passed the test for the grade of the general license. Advancing to this license grade will make available one more radio operator to utilize all radios in an emergency. Many people these days think of radio as something old and out-of-date. However, let me mention a few of the things around our house that involve radio. I am sure most homes are similar to ours and maybe even have a longer list. • Clock radio to wake me up in the morning (1) • Two fobs for keyless entry to our car (2) • In-car garage door opener button (1) • Wireless keypad for garage door (1) • Two KHOV fobs (2) • Wireless ceiling fan control (1) • Three wireless house phones (3) • Microwave oven (1) • Two cell phones (2) • Weather radio (1) • Portable garage radio (1) • TV sets (radio waves on cable) (3) • Wireless computer printer (1) • Radio in car (1) • Main gate decal on windshield (1) Total: 22 In addition to these, as a ham radio operator, I also have radios relating to my hobby that I started when I was 10 years old. It has been, and continues to be, a joy to me. As an adult, I went back to school in radio and electronics and made that a second occupation. As a licensed ham radio operator I respect people's right to quiet, and do not utilize my hobby in a way that causes any interference or noise for them. It is clear that we all have radio in one form or another all around us. Remember: radio is vital for emergency communications. Our meetings are in the Ballroom, 10 am on the last Friday of the month. ~ Harry Henderson, AC2LZ TOPS (Taking of Pounds Sensibly) is here at Four Seasons to help you reach your weight loss goals.
