48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2015
Ron Morgan and Bob Howard left the Lodge on Aug. 3 at
6:30 am for an overnight trip to Solvang. The 280 mile ride
took us through Redlands to the intersection with Interstate 15
and Hwy 138. We next proceeded to Palmdale for our morning
Starbucks fix. From Palmdale, we went up Leona Valley to Lake
Elizabeth and Lake Hughes. This route was one of the prettiest
routes in Southern California until two years ago when fires
devastated the area and the drought dried up both lakes. Our
next stop was Pine Mountain Golf Club for lunch and then
down off the mountain to Hwy. 166. At this point it was 100
degrees and we broke out the cool vests. Our route then took
us to Tepusquet Canyon and on to the wine country area of
Chumash Valley. This ride is a favorite for a quick getaway
with only 40 miles of interstate all the way to Solvang. ~Bob
