Happy Cookers celebrated "Let them eat cake" in July. During ancient times cakes were bread like and made of fruits, nuts and honey. They were used to celebrate life's special occasions. The boxed cake mix, as we know it, did not appear until 1920. This was for convenience and variety. Betty Crocker appeared in 1947 and the rest is history. We were treated by our members to 12 different kinds of cake, most of which were homemade. Yum. On Fri., Sept. 25 Happy Cookers will be going "Back to School." In lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting. We will be going on an outing to Beaumont High School. The culinary students will serve a fabulous lunch. It will start with brochette, won ton, salad, and soup, followed by chicken and pork with veggies, fresh fruit, coffee and tea. All this for $10. After lunch we will tour the Beaumont High School Culinary Department and kitchens. We are looking forward to an informative and enjoyable experience. Deadline to sign up to go will be Sept. 10. Make checks payable to Happy Cookers. For further information contact Suzi Messick, 769-7945. For Happy Cookers membership information contact Carolyn Wright, 797-3568. We have had several lost dog rescues with no ID. Please take the time to get an ID tag at Petco it is easier than trying to hunt you down with microchip information. Our meeting is Mon., Sept. 21 in the bus room and Shelby Baran will be joining us from Search Dog Resources. She is a certified K-9 search team, Trailing, area search, cadaver (land or water), and basic disaster. She will be bringing her dogs and giving us a demonstration. This should be very interesting and I am looking forward to her visit. Happy fall! Info., Lori Hutchins, 626-827-9777. EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE (Left) Callie our little one eyed stray cat is doing well. She had her shots and needed medication for her eye that is a birth defect not an injury. I gave her a bath and she was eager to be with her new mommy, Linda Sailor's daughter. I would like to thank Elizabeth McGinty and Linda Sailor for their donations towards Callie's vet bills. (Right) This is Happy Jack who found his way into Sun Lakes and into our hearts on July 20. Such a happy fellow. John and Swem fostered him for 30 days to see if we could find the owners. We could not find his owners so they decided to adopt Jack. They just love him to pieces… Roger Roadstrom helped me put together our new cat condo that we purchased. We now have somewhere to keep lost cats.
