| sun lakes lifestyles | OCtOBeR 2015 |19 Summer is finally behind us; unfortunately we can all see the change of the perimeters of the course due to our compliance to the Statewide Water Mandate. The month of October brings us to greens aerification, and overseeding specific areas. Because of the water situation we will only be seeding tee-tops and areas around the greens. While we are seeding we will be placing the tee markers to either the front or rear of the tees. Please don't play outside of where the markers are placed so everyone can enjoy the newly seeded tees once we open them back up in a couple of weeks. As many of you have noticed that many trees on the golf course are dead or struggling to stay alive. Some are dying because of borers which invade trees. Tree removal is being done but only after an Arborist Report is filed and approval from the Board of Directors. This is a process that will take time to facilitate. The greens have had some challenges this summer, partly because the greens are holding water due to thatch. When this happens the plant becomes puffy and succulent. Due to the water mandates we have been forced to apply more water at night to get us through the next day without watering using the overhead sprinklers. This fall and next spring we will be removing thatch more frequently so we don't have the issues next summer we have had this year. I hope you all are enjoying the cooler weather, I will see you out on the course. ~ Mark Burchfield, Course Superintendent Drought and the Golf Course 9 & Dine Golf Scramble on Championship Course Fun Formats Dinner immediately following Dinner $12 • Prize Money $3 • Golf $20* (*Annual members do not pay for golf ) GAME DATES & DINNER MENU Sept. 23, 4:30 pm: Pulled pork, slaw, cookies Oct. 21, 4 pm: Pizza, salad, brownies
