34 | sun lakes lifestyles | OCtOBeR 2015 | We're on our way to another great year with the Dinner Dance Club. Good food, great music, and a chance to spend an evening catching up with friends while we get a little exercise kicking up our heels is always special. Remember, with the new sign up procedure you may sign up early (anytime from the first of the month until Oct. 7) by leaving your check and sign-up form in the mailbox located on the front gate at 782 Torrey Pines Rd. Groups may sign up together and request their desired seating location. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request. You will be given the next best option if your choice is not available. Otherwise, you may still attend the last-call sign up meeting on Oct. 8 at 2:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. October's dance is Sat., Oct. 17. Doors open at 5:30 pm; unfortunately, neither of our very talented and generous dance instructors are available… so there will be no dance lesson in October. With fall in the air, we will move to "dressy" attire, so pull out those wonderful dressy clothes that make everyone feel so special. From 6 to 9:30 pm we'll be dancing the night away to "Touch of Class." The menu sounds great, starting out with a mixed green salad, rolls and butter. Entree choices are as follows: 1) Pork shanks with mixed white and wild rice with green onion and mushrooms at $24; 2) Pot roast with gravy and mashed potatoes for $22. Both above entrees will also include Fresh Haricot Verte with diced onion/real bacon bits and slivered almonds. 3) The vegetarian selection will be Fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli and mushrooms for $19. We've ordered something special tonight: Craig's Peach Dessert! Remember, if you choose to wait to sign up at last call on Oct. 8, table selections begin promptly at 2:30 pm. Please come earlier if you need to complete the paperwork for your table. If you sign up and are unable to attend, you may call Carla at 797-3506 before 3 pm on the day of the dance, and she will arrange for you to pick up your meal to enjoy at home. See you at the dance!! Dinner Dance Club We are now well into our 23rd year of good music and dancing. The club gives dance instructions for both line dancing and couples dances. Our dances on Friday evenings gives us a chance to get together with other nice people to practice all the dances we've learned and have a little fun. Our dance schedule for this fall deviates from normal due to the scheduled activities of other clubs. So, please, always refer to our Lifestyles articles for activities, times and places, it's usually correct. On Fri., Oct. 9 we will have our usual Country Western Dance in the Ballroom. But, on Fri., Oct. 30 we have a special events dance. We will again have Mike Novak as our guest DJ and dance instructor. This past March he came and gave us an entertaining, high energy program that everyone seemed to enjoy. So mark your calendars and don't miss this special evening. Note that Oct. 30 is the FIFTH Friday. Our Friday night dances are in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom from 7 to 9 pm. Line dance instructions will be held at the South Clubhouse on Mon., Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 7 to 8:30 pm. We are still teaching beginner line dances so you can still come and give it a try. Couples instructions will be held at the South Clubhouse on Tues., Oct. 13, and 27 from 7 to 8 pm. Have questions? Want information? Call Joe or Jean at 769- 9148. Country Western Dance Since the late '90s, a group of residents have been practicing their dance routines. Ten of the present 35 have been there from the first class. Starting with the title, precision dancers, they voted to call themselves "Stardust dancers." The newest members of the group are: Donna Kissling, Marry Ellen Howe, and Penny Skog. The Stardust Dancers usually sustain a repertoire of eight numbers. Members can choose to participate in any number they wish to learn. Presently, they are working on two new routines: "Broadway," by Count Basie with 28 members, and a beach boy number with 20 members. The modeling class is revamping their "black and white spoof " and the "high fashion" numbers. Members are encouraged to select the routines they want to do for performances. The dancers recently performed "One" and the "Can Can" numbers in the IDS show, and will present a Beach Boy medley in the follies. The annual Stardust showcase will be July 15 and 16 for 2016. Dance styles taught include Broadway, light jazz, precision, novelty, modeling, and fun, fun, fun. Exercise and music appreciation is included as well. Call Evelyn at 845-7199 or any Stardust dancer if you are interested in more information. Stardust Dancers
