FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2015 49 We have some major schedule changes this month. Our tournaments with Hemet, known as "traveling tournaments," will now be on the first and third Mondays of each month. The first Monday of the month, we travel to Hemet and the third Monday Hemet comes here. The Billiards Room is reserved for club use even when we have away games so that club members may warm up prior to leaving. 8-Ball Club members not participating in travel can still practice here at home on that first Monday. Team practices are at 6:30 pm until 9 pm on the other two Mondays, then every Wednesday and every Friday. The In-house 8-Ball tournament is on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm. In-house 9 Ball tournament is on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm. (Both of these in-house tournaments will start no later than 6 pm.) Monthly 8-Ball Club business meetings are still on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm. The team practice that night will pause for the meeting, then commence at the conclusion. The night of the business meetings, on even numbered months (February, April, June, August, October, December), we collect plastic/glass bottles and aluminum cans to support club expenses. Our standing rule concerning tournament participation is this: to qualify for any tournament you must have practiced with the team at least one day in the week leading up to that tournament. This rule was established to prevent those players who are not a present part of the team from showing up on tournament day expecting to play when we may not have seen them at all for weeks or months. In the week prior to the tournament, there are practice signup sheets and a Traveling Tournament sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board that we are requested to use to qualify. Check the 8-Ball Club message board in the Billiards Room for any changes of dates or locations. On to tournament news for the month. What's that saying? "Always the bridesmaid, never the bride?" During both the 8-Ball and 9-Ball Tournaments I placed second. In 8-Ball I lost one game prior to the final but Larry Rice was undefeated. He won the first game of the final to clinch. For 9-Ball, I was undefeated prior to the final but Dewey Allen came up from the losers column to beat me twice under the rule of double elimination play and secured the monthly championship. Congratulations to Larry and Dewey, I was honored to be part of your wins.
