From student Pauline Holmes: I love reading the articles in the Breeze magazine (even some of the advertisements are interesting), and I particularly look forward to the "Work by the Artist of the Month" in each edition. I have always thought that the works published here were by very talented, trained artists who had years of experience. Although that may be true in some cases, it certainly is not in mine. Until a few months ago, I didn't even consider that I might in any way be interested in drawing - the only evidence I had of anything slightly artistic was pages of doodles! Then, in March, a friend introduced me to Rob Kelman's Creative Drawing & Sketching Class. Since then, I have spent a couple of hours each Wednesday evening in Rob's class with a group of friendly, amusing Four Seasons residents, and I have learned how to produce a drawing that is representative of what I see - and is also recognizable by others! The adobe door that is shown here has been done in pencil, and is my fourth work since I started the class. Not only has Rob taught me how to "see it so I can draw it," he has also introduced me to techniques that create light, shadow and perspective, which add contrast and depth to my drawings. Many of us who attend this class consider it a delightful escape from life's daily routine. We are uncovering a hidden talent, and thoroughly enjoying our journey of discovery. If you are looking for a new pastime, I don't think you could find anything more rewarding than this class, where Rob gives so generously of his time and expertise, and all newcomers are given a warm welcome. We plan outstanding, joyous celebrations of events around Thanksgiving, the Harvest Festival, Passover, Purim, and Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. Members have attended movie nights, holiday celebrations, and committee meetings at private homes to plan events in Redlands and Sun Lakes, as well as meetings at our Lodge Card Room, on various occasions 6 to 8:30 pm.
