42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2015 Racquet Club Like the federal fiscal year, October is the beginning of the new year for the Racquet Club. The annual general membership meeting and dinner is scheduled for Oct. 20 at the Lodge. Members can renew their memberships, hear the annual report from Committee Chairman Irve Sturner, and enjoy a hosted dinner. It will also be time for election of the five 2016 Committee members. The 2014/2015 committee members have been Irve, Chair; Barb Miller, Treasurer; Howard Lyon, Secretary; Romy Villena, Member-at-Large; and Steve Hovey, Member-at-Large. No special skills or abilities are required, just a willingness to do the work and support the club. Members interested in serving on the committee may email Irve to have their name placed on the ballot or may be nominated from the floor at the Oct. 20 meeting. Subject to the decisions of the 2016 Committee, club membership provides monthly play days on the final Saturday of each month and three special hosted luncheons, usually in conjunction with major professional tennis tournaments; also an annual Fourth of July Red/Blue team competition, friendly competitions with neighboring active adult communities, and the opportunity to buy into shared ownership and use of the tennis ball machine. By the way, current ball machine users are reminded to remove all of the tennis balls from the reservoir compartment when they are storing the machine. Leaving the tennis balls in the machine will damage the sweeper thingies that feed in the balls. Nobody should want damaged sweeper thingies. At press time, plans were underway for the final play day and hosted luncheon of the 2015 club year. Participating members were to enjoy sandwiches from Subway, with all the fixings, accompaniments and some off-brand beverages. The August play day was well-attended with a dozen players braving the hot summer day. Once again, Howard and Mickey Nelson were there to conduct a drawing for unique and barely useful prizes. Hilario Luna had his tickets drawn twice, but rules made up on- the-spot limited him to one prize and for reasons known only to him, he chose a Johnnie Rivers CD. So, join us on the courts, and you too may find yourself a lucky winner, or just enjoy some friendly, healthy tennis with your Four Seasons Beaumont neighbors. The baby was born on April 17 and is as cute as a bug in a rug. Here are a few pictures of our ping pong players holding the baby, Tungmay. If you would like to hold Tungmay and play some ping pong too, we would love to have you join us. You can find us in the aerobics room Monday through Friday at 10:30 am and Saturdays at 11 am. Please contact Niles Sundstrom at (951) 572-5119 or Alan Chan at (951) 769-4202 if you have any questions or need more information about your Four Seasons Ping Pong Group. ~ Niles Sundstrom Niles Sundstrom, Jeannie Baker, and Don Fant hold Tungmay.
