Welcome to your Four Seasons library. We certainly hope you are one of the residents that are continuously reading and donating books to the library. It would also be great if you are returning the books and magazines. We know that the majority of residents bring borrowed items back but we lose a lot of our magazines and some books that never reappear again. Thank you to those who realize others are waiting for that certain book that you are bringing back! We have a special thank you to Rick Ruth this month. The Sunshine program guest in August was Bill Harrison who authored 6 Days on A Raft. Mr. Harrison has also been voted Patriot of the Year. His story was compelling and he was an absolute delight. Rick purchased two copies of his paperback book for our library. Mr. Harrison autographed them for Four Seasons residents. Rick thank you for your generous donation. And, congratulations on your first grandson known as Baby Ruth! We only have the room to display three months of magazines. When we received outdated ones they are donated to the Hemet library and are put out for anyone to take — free. What to do if you have two years of Oprah Magazines? Make that short trip and discover the Hemet library. At this time please bring August, September and October magazines for us to display. We are still waiting for our National Geographic magazines to return. Our committee is comprised of volunteers living in Four Seasons who enjoy reading and have a desire to keep our 55+ library in order. It takes a full village to accomplish that. We actually have an assignment sheet that changes our duties each month. There is an unwritten rule that if you are on the committee and you are at the Lodge you need to check the library before you leave. And, take care of your assigned duty. Some residents want to be helpful and shelve the books donated. We need to stamp and date them so please just put them in the return box. Thanks so much. We appreciate you and love hearing that you appreciate our hard working volunteers! Our paperback books are displayed from 2011-2015. All others are taken downtown. We have residents wanting a series in paperback displayed but we are too limited in space. We find books that residents love, being secretly put in the paperback display. I understand but they are found quickly and taken downtown. Please take only two to three books at a time. We have residents asking for certain books that they have been waiting for and it doesn't come back for two to three weeks, or never. Please check and see if you still have one of our books at home. We would appreciate it. It would be wonderful if this could be the rule for magazines. Please don't grab a handful and not bring them back. Please return them. Our library directory is back and updated. You will find it on the table by the book return box. Most of our "Classics" books were taken. Shogun was especially missed. There are probably 20 gone. It's sad. Keep those audio CDs coming. VCR tapes are just not needed anymore. They have become a thing of the past. There are wonderful movies on CD that can be checked out at the front desk. Until next month, happy reading. Committee Member Ann Page Read Mrs. Poe by Lynn Cullen. This novel tells the story of a struggling poet named Francis Osgood. During the 1840s it was difficult for a woman to be recognized for her writing. Francis is introduced to the New York literary community whose membership includes Edgar Allen Poe. Her work is finally acknowledged by Poe and they develop an unlikely friendship. Francis also becomes a confidant of Virginia Poe, Edgar's wife. Francis accepts numerous invitations from the Poe's to attend social gatherings. She believes this will help her acceptance into society and mask her other motive. This novel is based on historical fact that captures the readers' interest for the next turn of events. It also gives insight into the dark side of Poe and his writing.
