I've been asked to speak about a
couple of items regarding the alleged
"El Nino" coming this winter. I've
seen that the heaviest rain may be in
December and taper off in January,
but with any weather prediction we never know for sure. Rather than
take a chance that it won't happen, here are some tips to help prepare
your home for the rainy season:
• If you have rain gutters, have them checked and cleaned out
as needed.
• Check your irrigation drainage: Does water flow out onto the
curbing/gutters? If so, the system is not blocked.
• Check the slope of the ground near the walls of your home.
Does the ground slope away? It should unless you've had
extensive work done. (All homes when built, were graded for
runoff away and towards the street.)
• Have you had any roof leaks? If not, you are probably in good
shape. But consider having a licensed roofing contractor
perform an inspection. Your homes are 10+ years old now.
(There may be a fee to inspect your roof, so make sure you
ask them.)
In previous articles, I wrote about the importance of being a good
neighbor and presented some examples. I know this may not be easy,
but everyone needs to do their best in this regard. It's for the benefit
of you, your neighbors on your street, and the community as a whole.
So please maintain your front yard landscaping, trim your trees, keep
your trash cans out of view after they are emptied and pick up after
your pets when walking them off of your property.
For those that follow the rules and are responsible pet owners,
thank you very much!
Also this month, many things are happening at the Lodge. Right
after Thanksgiving, the Lodge, garden area gazebo and the main
entry will be beautifully decorated. A lot of folks cheerfully give of
their time so it can be enjoyed by all. Thank you volunteers! For
those of you that are new owners, you'll be amazed at what is done.
Let's also take some time to think about the things everyone should
be thankful for: health, family, friends and a wonderful community
to live in.
May you and your loved ones have a peaceful and blessed
Thanksgiving holiday!
