36 | Sun lakeS lifeStyleS | JanuaRy 2016 | Please stop by the courts adjacent to the Golf Pro Shop, and let us show you the games that we love. You'll get some good exercise, have a little competition and meet some nice people. Regardless of your experience level, we can help get you started and help you meet people of your same experience level. The club has paddles for newcomers available for both paddle tennis and pickleball, so there is absolutely no reason to stay away. Paddle Tennis is played on Tues., Thurs. and Fri. from 8 to 10 am, and pickleball is played six days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 8 to 10 am. For any questions, or for more information, please call Les or Nancy Ebner at 845-2768. We hope to see you on the courts soon! Paddle Tennis & Pickleball Pop Tennis Happy New Year from the Tennis Club Tennis Resolutions for 2016 Resolution No.1: Join the Tennis Club! Get involved with one of the most fun club's around. We have scheduled activities throughout the year. This club is for every level of player and/or spectators. Annual Dues are only $10 pp. Remember every single tennis player you see out on the courts had to make the decision to get out there and play. Make 2016 the year you come out and play!! Resolution No. 2: Open Tennis Days! Make plans to come out every first Saturday of the month and play tennis with all level of players. If you need a racket simply call one of the board members and let them know you need a loaner racket. We have a slue of donated rackets for you to use and practice with (board member names/numbers are at the South Clubhouse). 2016 Open Tennis Days at the South Courts (all level of play): Jan. 2, 9 am; Feb. 6, 9 am; March 5, 9 am; April 2, 8 am; May 7, 8 am; June 4, 8 am; July 2, 8 am; Aug. 6, 8 am; Sept. 3, 8 am; Oct. 1, 9 am; Nov. 5, 9 am; Dec. 3, 9 am. Resolution No. 3: Play at a More Challenging Level This Year! While it can be enjoyable to play against the same players over and over again, we encourage you and your group(s) to make plans to talk with other groups of players and see if they would be open to cross play with 8 players instead of the normal 4. Resolution No. 4: Play More "Fun" Tennis! If you have only been playing and focusing on USTA/League tennis matches consider adding more "fun" matches to your tennis schedule. Fun matches give you a chance to help out new beginner players and to try out shots that aren't so easily attained with high level play. Resolution No. 5: Improve Your Serve! When learning how to play tennis and having to dink the ball over into your opponents court is always easier said then done. However, if you have been playing for over a year it is time to put some ump into your serves. See you on the courts! A very special thank you to our 2015 Tennis Board for great days of tennis and tons of fun activities. Job well done! Bill Hendra, President; Michele Walter, Vice President; Teri Comerford, Vice President; Lori Hazelton, Secretary; Peggy Laurel, Treasurer. Tennis We are excited to announce that Sun Lakes now has a new club – The SLCC Paddle Tennis Club, which is solely dedicated to the promotion and advancement of the game of POP"Tennis. There has been much fanfare of recent regarding our sport which is being rebranded to be known as POP Tennis. This name transition will take some time but will help differentiate our game from the confusion many have as to other paddle-related games. Much of the excitement for the game has been generated with the new, hi-profile, thicker, framed racquets which generate more power and control. For a better understanding of why POP Tennis is becoming the "new game in town", check out www.youtube.com/ watch?v=IFQwjJ6EGTA. With the current growth and expected interest from new players, starting the new year 2016 seemed an appropriate time to establish our new club. We have many exciting ideas and plans to inspire all of our Sun Lakes friends to come out and see what great fun, fellowship and exercise make us love the game we play. Our scheduled days of play are Tuesdays 8 to10 am, and 6 to 8 pm. Thursdays, 8 to10 am, and 6 to 8 pm, and Fridays 8 to 10 am. We always have paddles for our new players and request wearing tennis shoes which won't mark the courts. We're also are a non- perfume/cologne zone so we won't aggravate our allergy friends. Please call Jeannie McGuire for any and all information at 845-8817 and check out the courtside bulletin board for more information on upcoming activities. We look forward to seeing you at the courts!
