42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2016 Table Tennis Racquet Club It was a cold and Breeze-y Saturday after Thanksgiving when the Racquet Club met for its monthly Play Day of open tennis for all comers. At 8:30 am it was a small group of intrepid (rhymes with "stupid") players showed up on the tennis courts. The initial foursome included Padoo, Larry M., Howard L., and Hilario. Irve, Romy, and Steve were finally able to get some doubles going when Ray W. finished up his Pickleball play and joined us. A few others wandered out a bit later, including Barbara M., Tina S., Richard Carrasco, also after wrapping up some Pickleball play, and Victor M., who bragged that he was still stuffed from over indulging at the Castaways buffet on Turkey Day. Racquet Club Ambassadors Mickey and Howard Nelson did not disappoint just because of the inclement weather, but they didn't stick around very long either, demonstrating that age can bring about greater wisdom. Rather than wait for anybody to finish a set, they just gave out tickets for the drawing, so they go to the Bistro for some hot coffee and comfortable chairs. The upside for the rest of us is that Howard kept relatively short his cockamamie story about the stuffed owl prize actually being from the Broadway production of Annie. If that were the case, the New York producers got their props from the Hobby Lobby store in Hemet. Anyway, Steve won the stuffed owl, and Romy won a mystery bottle of some sparking beverage. He kept it wrapped up to keep his re-gifting options open. And then the tennis resumed. Barbara Miller continues to arrange mixed doubles play on the second and fourth Thursday evenings of the month, though often it's more just men's doubles than mixed. Nevertheless, contact Barbara if you would like to be included in the doubles play at 6 or 7 pm. As this edition of the Breeze will be delivered around January 1, 2016, on behalf of the FSBRC Committee and members, we wish all Four Seasons residents a healthy and happy New Year. Consider making one of your resolutions that you will join us on the last Saturday of every month for some fun, exercise, and fellowship on the tennis courts, starting at 8:30 in the morning. ~ Steve Hovey How do you accommodate 20 ping pong players when you only have two tables for them to play on? You can forget playing singles. The 20th player would probably wait 20 minutes to get a chance to play, so you move to doubles. That gets eight people up to the tables but you still have 12 people waiting to play and if you rotate one person out and one person in after each game, the wait time to play is still quite long. However if at the end of each game, the winners stay in the game but go to opposite ends of the table and the two losers go out, now two new players can come in and that speeds up the wait time considerably. If you have been tempted to come play ping pong but it looks like there are too many people waiting to play, don't worry. We will move you up to a table in a reasonable amount of time. Whether you are a pro or a beginner, we would love to have you join us. You can find us in the Aerobics Room Monday through Friday at 10:30 am and Saturday at 11 am or on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm.
