48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2016 Happy new year and welcome to 2016! Our recent cold and frosty weather has not put a chill on our pickleballlers. Many of our players are busy practicing for one of the largest pickleball tournaments in California. This tournament will be held in Palm Desert on Friday, Feb. 19 through Sunday, Feb. 21. With over 300 players, this USBPA sanctioned event should be really fun. And now for little humor. Top Ten Reasons To Play Pickleball 10. It's fun to see your friends' reaction when you say you love pickleball (pickle what?). 9. It lets people think you are a lot more whimsical than they thought you were. 8. It's a great way to exercise, stay limber, and avoid injury (just ask Irma Peterson). 7. It gives you another reason to have breakfast at Smitty's Bistro after you play. 6. It gives you an opportunity to wear your new workout clothes. 5. Pickleball will help us solve some of the world's biggest problems (most likely not). 4. Pickleball can help you stay youthful. 1. And finally Pickleball is just really fun. Our Thursday rides will include the Palm Springs, Salton Sea and Joshua tree areas. You can join in on our rides by just showing up in front of the Lodge at 9 am on Thursdays. Our monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6 pm in room 1 of the RNC building. Come join us. ~ Howard Lyon Motorcycle Club Our December hike is always a night hike here at Four Seasons to enjoy the wonderful Christmas lights of our residents and the spectacular urban lights of our valley. We start at the Summit and proceed along Four Seasons Circle to Plymouth Rock. Here we start to climb, zigging and zagging from cul-de-sac to cul-de-sac up the hill. This year many houses were covered in polka dots of green or red lights from hidden projectors. The hazy atmosphere was not as clear this year as in the past but the views from the hilltop were still captivating. Once on Mesa Verde we started downhill in the same fashion. Our group this year numbered two dozen plus one canine. We were well bundled up and since our customary Beaumont breeze stayed home, it made the sojourn very enjoyable as we grouped and ungrouped. We were new members and old timers exchanging information about our experiences here at Four Seasons. Back at the Summit some members elected to proceed onto the Lodge and commence partying while the hearty ones continued hiking. It was downhill on Bloomington Park, north to the lighted flamingos on Signal Peak then back to the Summit to conclude the hike. Then we all joined the indoor picnic with ample desserts and beverages.
