9 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | February 2016 | Art League Our gallery wall and display cabinet have held the exhibits of creative works from residents of the Four Seasons community for the past two years. More than 97 people have shared their creative talents with us. I hope that our guests have enjoyed the exhibits as much as we have. The league is always looking for residents who would like to display their original works. If you are interested in participating, please call Nancy Hawkins at (951) 926-2465. In January and February, the gallery wall is shared by the artists John and Pam Maykulsky, while the cabinet will display the artworks of Jackie Hansen. John Maykulsky has won several awards recently, among which is second place at Hemet Valley Art Association, "Tilted World" in the modern art category and third place for "Incognito" in the two-dimensional category at Diamond Valley Arts Council (DVAC). Congratulations, John! On Feb. 6 and 7, Andre Lohnert will teach a landscape painting workshop in Art Room. The participants will learn how to execute a successful landscape painting following the practices which were first introduced by French Impressionists. Those who are interested can sign up in the art room or contact Andre Lohnert at (951) 926- 3225. Lois Stipp is offering her second workshop on Fri., Feb. 19 from 10 am to 2 pm on "What To Do Now That My Art Piece Is Done." Lois will discuss how to frame or prepare your finished art and how to get your piece gallery ready. The cost is $10. Thank you, Lois, for doing your color class in January. March is student month for our gallery wall and display cabinet. Did you take a class here in our art room? We will hang or display your work or classroom piece. This includes anything from any class given here. Examples are knitting, tole painting, landscape painting, card making, or any offered subject. We will need pieces for the wall and cabinet. I will take two pieces from each person and will display at least one depending on space. You must sign up on the sheet in the art room. The Fine Art Show in the Ballroom will be on Sat., April 16 from 10 am to 2 pm. Please sign up if you will participate. Would you also like to do a demo of any kind while the art show is open? Let us know! If you've long dreamed of becoming a writer, how about making 2016 the year you realize that dream? The Diamond Valley Writers' Guild was launched last month by residents Lynne Spreen, Howard Feigenbaum, Lucia Wolfer, Vicki Hitt, Ellyn Wolfe, and Jim Hitt, as well as writers from outside Four Seasons. The Guild was formed to create a local community of writers who want to learn about writing and marketing, and support each others' literary success. The Guild meets on the fourth Saturday of each month from 9-11am (January - October). Meetings are held at the Hemet Public Library at 300 East Latham Avenue, and are free and open to the public. For a schedule of monthly programs, please view the "Events" page at the Guild's website, DVWritersGuild.org, or contact the Guild at DVWritersGuild@gmail.com. Some of Pamela Maykulsky's quilted artwork Our Featured Artist: Pamela Maykulsky I love bright colors in nature and enjoy bringing natural color combinations into my art, like the colors in a viola or an iris. One cannot improve on color schemes found in nature. I have quilted for about 30 years. First to create functional items, later to make fine art pieces that have traveled to quilt shows across the country. Various forms of collage have been part of my repertoire for an even longer time.
