40 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2016
Amateur Radio Club
The Four Seasons at Beaumont Radio Club, W6FSB, has recently
transitioned to a new leadership team consisting of President Pete
Hersey; Vice President Dick Van Bree; and Secretary Mike Mendoza.
In our first meeting with the new leadership team, they emphasized
our focus to be on training, education and having all FRS members
obtain an FCC Amateur Technician license. Training to pass the test
will be provided by the club. This training will be open to all Four
Seasons residents interested in venturing into amateur radio. Before
you can get on the air, you need to be licensed and know the rules to
operate legally. U.S. licenses are good for 10 years before renewal is
required and anyone may hold one. In the US there are three license
classes — Technician, General and Extra Class. The Technician
class license is the entry-level license of choice for most new ham
radio operators. To earn the Technician license requires passing one
examination totaling 35 questions on radio theory, regulations and
operating practices. The license gives access to all amateur radio
frequencies above 30 megahertz, allowing these licensees the ability
to communicate locally and most often within North America. It
also allows for some limited privileges on the HF (also called "short
wave") bands used for international communications. If interested
in obtaining an FCC Amateur Technician license by taking a one-day
course, please email Alfred Blair at ae6al@arrl.net or Pete Hersey at
mail to: pandvhersey@verizon.net and we will set up a class schedule.

Basketball
Do you like basketball? Would you like to play with a group or with friends? We would like to have you. No
experience is necessary. Just a desire to play, get exercise, and have fun. We are fortunate to have a great court to
play on.
We're a group of men and women, young, old, and in the middle who like to have fun playing basketball.
If you have any questions, call Richard Hoffman at (310) 869-8069, or inquire at the Lodge. ~ Richard Hoffman
