46 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2016 February held a lot of fun and changes for this growing group of billiard players! The fun began at 11 am on Tuesday, Feb. 2. We first pulled "peas" (numbered balls) to establish partnerships. Once the partnerships were formed, the play began as usual in regular play (except for the double elimination tournament rule). As more and more players lost two games, two partnerships remained standing, both vying for the winning title. Bob and Verina Rector (who happened to pull the peas making them partners for the tournament) were the winners! However, they were requested to return to play the winners of the second session, at approximately 2 pm. At 1 pm all the players for the second session started arriving. We repeated the pea-pulling process, and the play began. It is so interesting to observe that in regular play there is a lot of shared humor, laughter and encouragement. However, during the tournaments it is more subdued, as the concentration level intensifies. After several nail-biting games, the partnership of David Williams and Pete Antoine emerged as winners. But the tension didn't stop there. Soon Bob and Verina were back to challenge Pete and David. These winning partnerships played to win the best two out of three games. Congratulations to Bob and Verina Rector, who emerged as the February champs, and will be the first names to go on our new perpetual winners plaque. Pete and David came in as second-place winners. On Feb. 9 we held our bi-monthly potluck luncheon, hosted by David and Barbara Thomason. Our hosts decorated using a valentine theme, which was colorful and lovely. Everyone brought wonderful dishes to share, and the friendships and fun were exceptional. If you have always wanted to join a really wonderful group of fun people who love the game of pool, please drop by and check us out. Since we have so many members, you have two time frames every Tuesday to choose from: 11 am to 1 pm or 1 to 3 pm. Also this group has two informal practice sessions every Saturday at the same times. Please stop by and check us out. We have such a great time; you surely will want to become a part of this amazing group. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Billiards for Fun The Curly Cues is a new Four Seasons group of beautiful women who either want to learn or increase their skill at playing billiards (pool). Don't get us wrong, guys, we are not being discriminatory. It's just that sometimes your intensity and practiced skills tend to intimidate the women. So we implemented this fun group of all women to encourage, learn from and challenge each other. Initially, we had 16 women sign up, and we regularly have about 10 come to play. Ladies, come join us! For a few months, the group will be divided into two groups: the more experienced players, who have played the game before (any skill level) and know the basic 8-ball rules; and the beginners who have always been curious and intrigued watching others play and want to try their hand at this fun game. We, as ladies, are not as raucous as the guys, but we giggle a lot, have a great time, and are always encouraging of each other. Eventually, we will have bi-monthly lunches together outside of Four Seasons, and our ultimate goal is to challenge other women's billiards groups at Solera Hemet, Solera Beaumont and Sun Lakes! We play every Monday from 2 to 4 pm in the Billiards Room. Come by and check us out! We have a great time, and all women are welcome. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Curly Cues Lois LeMottee exhibits high levels of concentration as she prepares to take a shot Ken Gomer takes a shot First Place tournament winners Verina and Bob Rector Second Place tournament winners David Williams and Pete Antoine
