42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2016 Table Tennis Racquet Club Once again, the highlight of the month for the Racquet Club was our Saturday play day. With eight to 10 players available at all times, there was ample opportunity to stay on the court playing matches or engage in some spectating and socializing. The players were pleased to have both of our Ambassadors of the Court, Howard and Mickey Nelson, back with us. Of course, they were ready with another treasure trove of prizes for the lucky drawing winners. Howard was in great form with his story telling and before the drawing he told the long tale of the decorative rooster he was to give away. In his cock 'n' bull story Howard said the rooster, named Sir Donald, once lived on a farm, sharing the place with three plump chickens, with whom he frequently frolicked. Until, and this is where Howard got choked up with emotion, a rabid beagle got into the hen house and rampaged and consumed until the chickens were nothing but bloody feathers and feet. And because I actually fell asleep while standing and waiting for Howard to finish his monologue, I don't know exactly what was next in the story, but it had something to do with the rooster needing a new home. As bad luck would have it, I won the damn thing. It doesn't take urban logic to know that a once randy rooster does not belong in a small back yard in Four Seasons. So, I taxed my brain and tried to figure out how to keep Sir Donald and not have him bother the neighbors and me. Finally, I decided to get him a sage mentor to help him be calm. I paired him with a chubby, meditating Buddha, and now he is a mellow rooster. Oh, right, the tennis stuff. With the weather warming up, Barbara Miller has restarted the Thursday night social tennis with starting times at 6 and 7 pm on the second and third Thursdays each month. Contact Barbara and she will arrange doubles for the interested players. If you are interested, let Barbara know the Sunday before, and she will match folks up. As the other players will be counting on a match, please keep your commitment to play, barring unforeseen circumstances. Of course, there will also be the play day starting at 8:30 am on the last Saturday of the month. All tennis playing residents are welcome to come out and play. Please check our website at www.fsbrc.org. ~ Steven Hovey Because our club is growing and facing new challenges and issues, we recently formed a committee of people that love ping pong and are willing to invest some of their time and talent to bring our club to a high level of excellence that benefits all of us. Some of our goals will include the following: • Bring our club up to a new level of fun by adding a monthly organized club activity. • Initiate some form of fundraising to purchase such things as ping pong balls, new nets, dividers, medals and a nice perpetual trophy. • Promote issues and people that are ping pong friendly. • Establish rules for our club that are fair and balanced. • Make the club more friendly and playable for beginners, intermediate and advanced players. On April 6 we held our first meeting at the Summit and began to discuss how we could accomplish our goals. You don't have to be on a committee to play and enjoy ping pong. We would love to have you join us and see why we think ping pong is the perfect activity for fun and enjoyment. You can find us in the Aerobics Room Monday through Friday at 10:30 am and Saturday at 11 am. Please contact Niles Sundstrom at (951) 572-5119 or Alan Chan at (951) 769-4202 if you have any questions or need more information about your Four Seasons Ping Pong Group. ~ Niles Sundstrum The first members of our Table Tennis Committee are Alex Castanon, Sandra Butler-Roberts, Jeannie Baker, Lian Lee, and Niles Sundstrom Sir Donald and Buddha
