| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2016 |27 Once again I have to acknowledge a special person that we have lost. Shirley Almeida has passed away. Shirley began this group about six years ago when her husband John was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The group began with a short meeting and a guest speaker, who had some knowledge to share with use pertaining to Alzheimer's and dementia. Because of Shirley, the group has grown to a meeting with guest speakers, a much needed Caregivers Support Group and a Care Group with activities for the patients. Thank you Shirley, you will be missed. Our next meeting and care giving support group will meet on Thurs., July 21 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. We do not have a guest speaker for July. This will allow you to spend more time with the support group. Such a need for so many of you. In August, Jennifer Castenada, from Somerford Place in Redlands will speak to us. Mark your calendars for Aug. 18. Our patient group meets in the Arts and Crafts Room. This group is designed to help you, the caregiver. Just drop your loved one off and go on to the meeting. Enjoy the meeting and support group knowing your loved one is well taken care of and having fun. We play games, do exercises and have entertainment. Our volunteers are loving and caring. This month Tim Man's Heart will entertain us. Lee and Michael of Tin Man's Heart are a wonderful couple who have been so generous with their time and talent. Memory Care Group Rebecca Lowe and Kuba Kawnik are "Kubecca, The Ultimate Musical Odyssey", coming to the Friendship Club on July 10, 2016. Kuba Kawnik's incredible musical ability with interesting and somewhat obscure instruments, and his classically trained jazz background seems worlds away from Rebecca Lowe's strong, clear voice and her love of Broadway shows, pop, and country music. This couple has melded their talents into "Kubecca", a marvelous, cohesive whole. Kuba Kawnik began his musical career at the age of four in Poland. Although well-known for his performance on the vibraphone, he has mastered some unusual and difficult instruments including the theremin, a rare and complex invention accessible to very few virtuosos worldwide. Kuba was classically trained at the Academy of Music in Poland, and later studied at the acclaimed Jazz Institute of Katowice. He has played with the Warsaw Philharmonic and Łódz Philharmonic as well as for specials on Polish television. A frequent headliner on popular cruise lines, he has performed for extensive international crowds. Rebecca Lowe is best known for her roles in the musicals Evita and Jekyll & Hyde. As the youngest actress to perform the role of Eva Peron, Rebecca received standing ovations and critical acclaim throughout North America and Europe. She appeared in the title role of Lucy in the Los Angeles production of Jekyll & Hyde, receiving a Robby Award nomination. A regular headliner for various international cruise lines, Texas- born Rebecca is known for her easygoing personality as well as her marvelous voice. Her concerts are sophisticated, engaging, and entertaining, incorporating her Broadway background as well as popular and country music. The Friendship Club
