42 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2016 | Summer has arrived with its hot weather and drought conditions, but the Sun Lakes Golf Courses are still in very good shape. A lot of golf courses in Southern California have encountered some horrible course conditions because there just hasn't been enough rain to support the maintenance required on a day to day basis. We at Sun Lakes CC are blessed. This year, the men's club is in charge of organizing the always enjoyable Extravaganza Golf Tournament to be held on Wed., July 6. Sign-up sheets are available in the Pro Shop. This tournament is a two-man and two-woman scramble format which can involve considerable strategy. There will be a dinner to follow. The women golfers of Sun Lakes are very supportive of our tournaments, including providing considerable "man" power for our Member-Guest. You are urged to sign up for this tournament and enjoy the fun. The finals of our President's Cup are scheduled for Sat., July 9. Come out and root for your favorite final. Our CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP will be contested on July 20, 22, and 23 and your Men's Club Board has decided that players will only be allowed to compete in one flight. Thus, no one will be able to play in both the Championship Flight and the Super Senior Flight. The Championship Flight will be played from the blue tees, and contestants must be 55 years old as of 1-1-2016 and have a low index handicap of 10 or less, although players with a higher LI will be allowed to enter and play to a 10, if they so choose. Entry fee is $75 and includes the awards banquet on Saturday night. The SENIOR FLIGHT(s) will be for members who are 55 or older as of 1-1-2016 and will be played from the white tees. Low index as of 7-15 will also be employed, and play will proceed from Hole #10 on Wednesday and Saturday and from Hole #1 on Friday. We hope to have enough players to have at least two flights. The SUPER SENIOR FLIGHT(s) will be for members who are 75 or older as of 1-1-2016 and will be played from the white tees (<22 LI handicap) or the green tees (22+ LI hdcp). Play will start on Hole #1 on both Wednesday and Saturday. Please note that the Super Senior will be on Wednesday and Saturday, NOT on Wednesday and Friday. Again, we are hoping to have enough super seniors to have more than one flight. Entry fee for the two day tournament and awards banquet will be $55. The dinner and awards banquet will be in the main ballroom on Saturday night. If you wish to bring a guest, the additional fee will be $20. This dinner is, in many ways, the high point of our golfing year, and we are hoping to have it well attended. We will not be conflicting this year with "Music Under The Stars." The Men's Club is still working the "Sun Lakes Hall of Fame" issues with all the clubs and hopefully by the end of July we will be able to publish the final results. Men's Golf
