The perspective of the Artist of the Month Gerrie Karczynski: This drawing was inspired by a photo I took at the Mission San Luis Rey De Francis near Oceanside. The oldest pepper tree in California is located there. In 1830, a sailor from Peru brought seeds over to the U.S. and they were planted at the Mission. I made sure to include the tree– it is on the right side behind the area. To be honest, it was quite an undertaking on my part to draw the arch and view behind it. It took several tries and a lot of patience to complete. Prior to retiring and moving to the Four Seasons two years ago I lived in Orange. I was busy with other endeavors and had not drawn for many years. I've now been in the Drawing and Sketching class for about a year plus. Rob has helped me to see angles, forms, perspective, light source and how to make the subjects pop. Drawing something architectural can be quite a challenge, getting the right perspective of the subject. I'm glad to have completed this and have learned a lot. I intend to use what I've learned on future drawings. FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2016 35 Here we are, halfway through 2016! "Believe…" Women's Bible Study maintains 66 members on our roster, and usually around 40-45 attend each week. This is a spiritually powerful group of amazing Christian women, and the insights and thoughts discussed by these women are lessons in themselves. Add to that the prayerful powerhouses in this collective group. We witness miracle answers to group prayers almost weekly, and we all know He hears us and answers our prayers. In June we had four lessons on listening: What it takes to be a good listener, how to listen most effectively, how to understand and be perceptive listeners, and how the Bible tells us to listen not only with our heads, but our hearts as well. We should "listen for the whole train of thought, all the way to the caboose, before we cross the tracks" and completely concentrate on the speaker. Sometimes, the speaker doesn't need us to talk at all, just to listen intently, with our whole hearts. We were given a listening quiz to see where we might improve in our listening skills, and many of us realized we had a lot of fine-tuning to do. We then discussed how God hears us, and how we in turn listen for God's answers and hear Him. Many of the women shared beautiful stories of answers to prayers by listening for Him. In August we will discuss what characteristics, principles and values are encompassed in what God considers a virtuous and faithful woman. We always have insightful discussions as we read God's Word, and we anticipate that many of the women will share personal examples of virtue and faith in their lives. This is a non-denominational study of any translation of the Bible, and we promise to be welcoming and friendly. Thanks to Jim Seim for his dedicated leadership in this series! Our Bible Study will break for the summer, and resume on Tuesday, Sept. 13, a full week after Labor Day. We will plan a potluck dinner at 7 pm for the first meeting; details will be sent in early August. Hopefully, we will be able to see some of you during the summer months.
