42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2016 Racquet Club Our May Play Day enjoyed one of the best turnouts of the year. Particularly noteworthy was that we had a large number of women players join the men on the courts, and it was great to have enough "courtesans" for both women's doubles and some mixed doubles. Our reliable Court Ambassadors, Howard and Mickey Nelson, were there with fun prizes and tall tales, or in this case short tales. One prize was a short, Samsonite folding step stool that Howard, using a pejorative for persons of limited stature, said was suitable for such persons. Ironically, the winner was Louise Lyon who said the stool would be handy, because she has shrunk by three inches. There will be no further comment about shrinkage. The next prize, a vintage Four Seasons Beaumont Racquet Club tee-shirt was enthusiastically accepted by Hilario Luna. A third prize went to Larry Martin, who will receive a free, professional-quality wrap of his racquet grip by Committee Chairman Irve Sturner. Larry is not typically so tightly wrapped that he loses his grip, but he appreciated the gift. Lastly, someone (it wasn't me so I stopped paying attention) won a piece of wall art claimed by Howard to be a limited edition, (one of 2000) California Republic plaque, originally commissioned by Governor Jerry Brown. Barbara Miller continues to coordinate evening doubles play on the second and third Thursday of each month at 6 and 7 pm. It's a good time to play short sets as the weather heats up. Also, the club is preparing for the annual Independence Day Red-Blue team competition. As always, FSBRC holds a Play Day on the last Saturday of the month, beginning at 8:30 am, and all residents are welcome to come out for some social tennis.
