FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2016 41 Ballroom & Social Dance It's time for our mid-year Summer Fun dinner dance, and we'll take you on that narrow ribbon of pavement known as Route 66, stretching from Chicago to L.A. Along the way you'll see Burma Shave signs, quirky motels and attractions, and tiny gas stations. It's a blast from the past. The popular Skyline Express band will entertain us with great music for fun and dancing. And we'll be treated to a summer dinner of barbecue pork ribs and chicken, green and Waldorf salads, veggies, potatoes au gratin and pie á la mode. See the poster in the Lodge for details. This event sells out fast, so get your tickets now. Even though there is a wide variety of dances, most evolve over time, so a single, pure origin is hard to find. If you watch dancers of various countries and ethnic groups, you'll often see similarities. But there are also enough differences that dances can seem quite unique. We don't try to do every dance there is – we keep it simple. Our focus is on a variety of dances that are popular in our area today, and that are easy enough for us to do. For example, in the past several weeks we've been having fun doing some country and western dances – the Country Two Step, the Cowboy Cha Cha, and the Ten Step. Please note our summer schedule. After our Summer Fun dinner dance and through the month of August there will be no dance lessons on Monday nights. We'll keep you informed of dance practices and dance outings during this time, and hope to see you then. Dance lessons will start up again in September. Contacts: Puring and Gary Stifter at (951) 922-8333, or at purings@verizon.net. ~ Willis Fagan Exciting news: We will be hosting a FREE County Music Sock Hop in the ballroom Friday evening, July 15 from 5 to 8:30 pm. Bring your favorite beverage, order dinner from Smitty's, and dance to some of your favorite country songs. Or just come to listen, visit with friends & enjoy the music. The Heart & Soul dance group will be joining us for this dance filled evening. I want to thank the ladies that filled in for me while I was on vacation this past month. They all did a wonderful job and our group learned some new dances. Line dancing is a form of exercise. Although we dance to some slower music, many of the dances really get your heart rate up and some people even sweat. Line dancing allows for many "variations" for dancers to sort of personalize their movements, while dancing the basic dance. If you even think you have an interest, come watch us. The important part is coming out and having fun. Remember, I teach beginners one step at a time and most are dancing in 2-3 weeks. Hope to see you on Tuesdays at our beginners 3 pm class in the Lodge Ballroom and at 3:45 pm for the advanced class. ~ Martha Franck Line Dancing
