| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | July 2016 | 31 Tennis Friends Do you pronate or supinate? If you don't know, don't worry, lots of people get confused. If you are looking at the palm of your hand does the palm face toward or away from your body? If you think of the strings on your racket as you hit a ball, if you point the face toward or away from your body you will put different spins on your ball. So let's relate that concept to your tennis strokes. For example lets consider the serve. If your stroke has your strings point up and left and you brush the ball up and away your ball will curve right to left and spin with a slanted axis tilted from about 10 am to 4 pm. The spin will have the top of the ball spinning away from you at that angle. Coupled with the proper toss, you can hit the ball hard upward, the ball will pass high over the net, and sink faster than normal into the service box. Think baseball — curves, sinkers, split fingers, and drop-balls. Think about what happens if your stroke spins the ball around different axes, and in different spin directions. Think rise balls, floaters, four seamers, cutters, slices, etc. Spin to win. Drills on Wednesdays consider these and more concepts. In the meantime, drop by the courts for information and fun. Likewise you can increase your social sphere by checking with Tracy Trousset, Trish Egan or Chuck Sims. Almost every morning someone is playing. You can find your fun level. You can even come out Wednesday nights for drills, star gazing and tennis work outs… See you on court. If you are rusty, or a beginner, call Chuck and he will get you started. Our Snowbirds have returned home, Ray Hu from Canada, Barbara & Dennis from Canada and Ron & Tina Tumquist from Minnesota. We wish them all a safe trip home and look forward to seeing them next year.
