Mystery Theater is dark for the month of July and August. Meetings start anew on Sept. 6 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, stage side, at 1 pm. Continuing at that time will be exciting plans and expectations while looking ahead to the 2017 presentation of the grand production of THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT, entitled "Walk Down Memory Lane from World War II to Disco." The joy of theater camaraderie is yours for the joining. There are always openings for more entertainers, production assistants, stage props and set builders, as well as many other stage experiences. You will find us to be a warm and welcoming group, so come to a meeting and look us over. Dues are more than affordable at $10 for one person, and $15 for a couple! We meet on the first Tuesday of every month (except July and August) at 1 pm, Main Clubhouse Ballroom, stage side. For more information, call Barb Searcy at 663-3382, Bill Shova at 845-0547 or Jan Stapel at 769-6110. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2016 | 23 Mystery Theater & More We are beginning rehearsals for the fall production of Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling. This is a funny and touching story of six Southern women that was a big hit at Sun Lakes years ago. Directors Sallie Smelker and Lee Stone held open auditions in July and were pleased with the turnout. Please check the Facebook page Sun Lakes Playhouse to see if all roles have been cast. If not, there still may be an opportunity for you be involved either onstage or as part of the production team. You can also contact directors Sallie (769-2930) or Lee (858-735-3216) for more information. Rehearsals begin Aug. 10 and the production runs Oct. 27 through Oct. 30. The cast will be announced in a Sun Lakes Life article this month! We invite you to participate in our productions and activities throughout the year. We have monthly meetings on the stage side of the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 1 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Yearly dues are $13 for an individual and $20 for a couple. Contact Sue Dunn, Secretary (769-7552) for more information. Join our Facebook group by searching for Sun Lakes Playhouse and requesting membership. Drama Club Chorale Sun Lakes Chorale members and guests filled the North Clubhouse for our annual summer get-together last month. The reorganized Chorale board was formerly presented to the group by director Bill Kliewer: president Dorothy Lewis, vice-president Jim Searcy, secretary Peggy Huetten, treasurer Donna Kissling, and librarian Tony Suydam. A delicious dinner was provided by Johnny Russo's, with Chorale members supplying a selection of desserts. An impromptu Karaoke sing-a-long was offered by director, Bill Kliewer, and everyone participated. Without question, it was a fun and very well attended affair and, hopefully, will be repeated many times in years to come. Additionally, and for the fifth consecutive year, we are sponsoring a Barbershop Concert on Aug. 21. Sun Lakes is in for another special treat when the Inland Sound Chorus from the IE Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (that thrilled us last year) presents "Songs from The South," a collection of preeminent songs from the last 100 years. The IE Chapter also boasts eight quartets that will add another eight songs from that prolific time in southern history. The featured quartet of the evening will be the very gifted and comedic "Velvet Frogs." They were our guests three years ago and the audience was blown away by their special barbershop blend as well as their unmatched "shtick." This is a concert you don't want to miss! Tickets go on sale in the Main Clubhouse lobby Monday through Friday, from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm, Aug. 8 through Aug. 19, for $8 pp. Mark this event on your calendar now for Sun., Aug. 21 at 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Doors open at 2 pm for open theater seating and best seat selections, as well as some surprise raffle offerings from the IE Chapter. The Chorale will hold its organizational meeting for the holiday season on Mon., Sept. 14, at 8:30 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Following the meeting will be the first rehearsal of the season, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. If you love to sing, please join us for singing, plus fun and fellowship.
