14 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2016
By Cindy Graves
They came in by the hundreds… the lines wrapped around the
Lobby and the Bistro and we didn't know when it would stop. We had
planned for around 150 people to bring their dinners in and enjoy
the "Motown Visits Four Seasons" show sponsored by the African
American Culture Club and produced and directed by Willa Harris.
Boy, were we slammed! Danya, Lisa, me, Pete Antoine, Dariell Harris
and others jumped into table rolling action setting up more seating to
accommodate all of the anxious residents (over 350 people). Amazing
team work!
All the initial chaos and upset ended up to be quite worth it. As the
songs began to play and the performers began to entertain; everyone
in the house began singing and rocking out to those old great Motown
songs. The audience began clapping and swaying and tapping their
toes and a warm glow of community unity took over the place.
Jan White did some fabulous narration throughout the show and
really glued all of the various acts together with her dialogue. Willa
was certainly the singing and dancing Queen that night as she sang
"My Guy" by Mary Wells and "Mr. Postman" by the Marvelettes. Her
husband Lee and their handsome sons proved that the whole Harris
family was full of talent and soul.
Herman Thomas did an impressive version of Marvin Gaye's
"Sexual Healing" and the crowd roared with laughter as Roxie Elliot
joined the fun by rushing up to the stage to put a dollar in his… hand.
