34 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2016 | To all those who attended Big Band Dance last month, we hope you enjoyed the evening. Thank you Main Street Band and Gail and Paul for their added ambiance. September 29, a Thursday evening, is our next event. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Casual attire for your added pleasure. $10 for members, $15 for guests. Sign-ups take place Wed., Sept. 21 in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room at 1 pm. Eli will play your favorite tunes, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres available. Big Band Dance 80s Plus Club Our July gathering was entertained by our own wonderful Sun Lakes "Notables." They performed a variety of songs including a Beatles Medley (with their Beatles wigs, of course), then the women sang Can You Read My Mind and the men sang Hernando's Hideaway complete with their gaucho hats. They are a sizable group with a huge sound and extraordinary talent. We received several compliments from those attending who were blown away by the performance. Our catered meal was from Thomas Catering. For Independence Month, it was all American hamburgers and hot dogs and the trimmings, along with brownies to die for. September will be an Italian dinner catered by Johnny Russo's on Sept. 10. Get your reservations and money to Sandee by Aug. 31. Her contact number is 797-3201. We meet the second Saturday of the month at 3 pm at the South Clubhouse. Spouses and caregivers are welcome to attend as well. For information call Barb at 845-7904. HELP WANTED! We are looking for volunteers to help one day a month for just three hours in the set up, serving and clean up after these dinners. It is quite rewarding and you get to meet some lovely fellow Sun Lakers who attend as well as those who volunteer for these events. Please call Barb for information or to register your interest. Int'l Culture Club On the second Thursday evening in September, join us for a fun time as the I.C.C. travels to South American to celebrate the country of Brazil. The recent summer Olympics were held in Rio De Janero. Our band for the evening will be the Sophisticats playing from 6 to 9 pm their very enjoyable and danceable music. Doors to the Ballroom open at 5:30 pm and will be personable greeted by wither Evelyn or Martie, sometimes both. The dinner buffet starts at 6:30 pm by table call and is generally over by 7:30 pm depending upon how many members we have attending. Ginger is the gal you see roaming the room with a basket in her hands selling 50 - 50 tickets in case you missed the table as you enter that sells them. She also has the job of hiring the bands for our monthly dinner dances. Menu for the evening is Kielbasa sausage with green bell peppers, Cajun chicken pasta, red beans and rice, and Asian mixed veggies, your dinner salad of coleslaw with pineapple flavored with coconut will be table set as you enter, along with corn bread muffins with butter and honey. Dessert is also table served and is banana pudding with Brazilian cookies along with coffee and water. Iced tea will be found on a side board in the room. You can sign up for this evening on the first Thursday afternoon of the month in September at the N, C, H, 3 pm, $22 for members, $25 for an out of town guest.
