Successful serve. The successful serve is meant to be hit with the racket head flat against the ball on impact, while the left arm remains up as long as possible, shoulders reaching towards the sky trying to stay open as long as possible. Note: If you're a lefty it would be your right arm. Biggest basic serving problems. The biggest basic problem with the serve, is dropping your left arm too quickly, which causes your shoulder and head to drop and the ball fall into an unknown direction. The second biggest basic problem is losing control of the toss - too low or not enough out in front. The end result is the ball going into the net, or into an unknown direction. How to fix basic common service problems. Don't think about double faulting, think about staying relaxed and loose. Shake loose your shoulder, arm and hand. Stretch the lower back. Deliberately hold the handle with a loose grip. Practice a lot of shadow swings to loosen up. Practice a lot of shadow tosses. Focus on the pop noise when the ball smacks the middle of the racket. Keep the left arm up as long as possible. Next month: The Toss. Tennis Table Tennis/Ping Pong Good exercise! A fun activity! Great people! That's what you'll find with us.
